Today on Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough has a segment where he said that a number of his Republican friends ask him why he's not a conservative anymore. Joe said the question always pisses him off and prompts him to respond with, "Really? What issue have I shifted my conservative views on?" Joe said they can't come up with anything because he hasn't changed, the Republican Party has changed.

In fact, some of the party's Most Conservative members -- people like Liz Cheney -- are on 'the outs' with the party. Hell, Ronald Reagan wouldn't be able to win a primary for dog catcher in today's GOP!

From it's founding, this country has benefited from the 'ying-yang,' dynamic of our government. But when one of the parties abandons their principles (in this case, conservatism) for the cult of personality to the point where some Trumpets opine, "What's wrong with fascism?", our country is entering some seriously scary territory.

Joe described today's Republican Party as tribalism run amok. I wholeheartedly agree.

People have been saying the same thing about both parties for the last 20 years. The only thing that has actually changed is that the voices are louder thanks to social media.

Arguably, diehard progressives have gotten a lot less from their party than diehard conservatives have from the GOP over the past 20 years, but I don't recall any talk about them abandoning the Democratic Party in droves.

Retardplicans are a bunch of fact denying racist liars it seems like.

Joe is a latte liberal now on the upper west side. Reagan was bad on spending. Cheney bad on wars.

Joe is not a conservative. He switched wives, and handed over his balls and man card a long time ago. When he first started on the morning Joe show him and his now wife were almost always on opposite sides of issues, now they almost never are. She didn't change her views, so you figure out who has changed.

I dont keep up with Joe so I dont know if he is a conservative or not, but he is absolutely right about the GOP changing over years.

Joe married a long-time wacko liberal NYC chick.

Guess what he turned into?

Lol...

The Democrats haven’t changed? Imagine mainstream members of the Democrat party in the 1990s declaring themselves socialists...

Imagine mainstream members of the Republican party in the 1990s believing a Capitol insurrection was justified because the POTUS election was "stolen" from their party when their guy lost by five states and 7 million votes.

Ronald Reagan must be spinning in his grave.

I have heard almost no one say what happened in Washington was ok. Almost all of us in the Republican party said the rally was fine, the march was fine, breaking in an looting was not, and those responsible should be charged. Unlike Dem leaders who are still backing not peaceful protest but the riots. Hell the VP was helping raise money to get rioters bail paid so they could go back an loot more businesses.

We could go back and forth all day... Mad Maxine told people to get more confrontational if a jury didn’t convict someone.

These two things shouldn't be compared. It's like having one house that burned down because of arson, and one house that burned down because of an electrical problem. Even if the end result is the same, the root cause is completely different. If you compare ONLY on the outcome, you're missing the story.

The BLM stuff is a product of our complex history as a nation. No one questions the history of slavery, voting rights, civil rights, the klan, or racism in general historically. You can't look at that history and say "yup, definitely solved ALL those problems." So even if I think some of the stuff being driven today is over-reactive and too political, I can easily empathize with the underlying idea that we've got more work to do on this issue.

Now, contrast that to stop-the-steal and Jan 6th. Is there a historical record of repressing and persecuting Republicans? Did Republicans used to get segregated off into their own bathrooms and schools? Is there a long documented history of Republicans having elections stolen? No. This entire grievance was born over the course of Trump's 4 years and catalyzed over just 2 months.

Hundreds of years of repression and violence against blacks in America and no mob ever stormed the Capitol. Decades of massive protests in DC on all sorts of issues. No one ever stormed the Capitol. But it only took Trump, his acolytes, and a non-centralized campaign of disinformation 2 months to drive thousands of people into this radicalized state.

THAT is the difference.

LOL You've got a Congresswoman who opines that the Parkland School shooting was a hoax but you want to talk about "Mad" Maxine?

But those two are small fry examples compared to Donald Trump's batshit craziness.

We could go back and forth all day...
Yes, we could - and you'd continue to dig a deeper and deeper hole for yourself.

Nobody gives a shit about MTG. She won’t be around long and has no influence in Washington.

Mad Maxine though? Just a 15 term representative who chairs the House Financial Services Committee.

And “The Squad” are heroes of the intersectional left, and have called for the abolition of police, saying that policing can’t be reformed.

But sure... it’s jUsT thE rEpUbLiCaNs that have changed.

Nobody gives a shit about Maxine Waters.

Mad Trump though? Just a United States President who was impreached twice and who incited an insurrection before being forced to leave office.

Wanna keep playing? :)

Trump was acquitted, and we’re all well aware of how ridiculous the Russia nonsense was by now. But that didn’t stop that absurd story to be pitched to the public on a loop for years.

Maxine Waters has been elected by Democrat voters 15 times despite a laundry list of outrageous behavior and allegations of serious corruption. And like I said, she chairs the Financial committee.
