True freshmen vs UCONN

Sending Killins on a fly down the middle where he lines up in the backfield was great strategy by Frost on the Killins TD. This way he is covered by a LB or safety, and not a corner which is what happens if he lines up wide or in the slot. There is no way a LB can cover him on a fly. He had a 2-3 step lead on the guy trying to cover him on that TD!

Frost is great at having all of the RBs get down the field on past plays and they can catch. Unfortunately, those plays need protection and Milton has to place the pass better on screens. We need to get the ball more and more to Akins. He's a matchup knightmare and he's only a sophomore.

The touch Milton put on that ball was perfection. It's easy to overthrow a small receiver like Killins in that situation with a flat ball but he took just a little something off it and some air underneath it and dropped it right in his hands.

I count 12 by true freshmen:
Snelson 6
Killins 6
Akins 6 (sophomore)
Wright 6 (sophomore)

Perhaps they are counting Milton throwing to Akins. Seems like Milton throwing to Snelson and Killins should also count as double or something if that's the case. Anywho, pretty good stuff from the kids.

Yes our pass protection has got to get better. Agreed, it would be great to see Akins get more touches.

And run blocking too.

When UCF plays teams with solid front 4's (i.e. Temple and even UCONN), running lanes are few and far between.

Losing Soph OL Tyler Hudanick has impacted the OL performance...as others like 5th year Chester Brown et al have to step up and be a lot more consistent.

Two straight weeks against teams with better lines than us on both offense and defense. UConn was also huge. Yet their LBs were quick enough to shut down all our sweeps, flairs, and run options outside. All of them! Thank goodness for Wilson or UCF would have had zero ground game (they also started keeping him in for pass protection).

Thanks for posting. Would be cool to see where we stand nationally. Milton, if he stays healthy, could exceed 20 TDs and 2500 yds (including a bowl). Snelson could feature prominently if defenses continue to try to stop the run and blanket our two primary receivers. Hamilton struggling learning to offense and transitioning to college size, speed, pass blocking, and making cuts. Killins making mistakes on returns, but can't be ignored.

For a RB, the hardest thing to pick up is pass pro. Not surprising at all that Hamilton is struggling in that area. I can't imagine he was asked all that often to stay home in pass protecting back in high school. It is something most young RB's struggle with.

As far as the overall team is concerned, they have met or exceeded my expectations thus far this season. The offense is going to come in flashes here and there. The OL we have was not recruited to play this style. That being said, they were not very effective at what they were recruited for. The OL still has a long way to go, but with better recruiting, and in particular- players recruited to this system, the offense will continue to get better and most importantly, more consistent. The defense has played very well thus far. That was my big concern coming into the season. They gave up 40 or more in something like 7 out of the last 8 games last season. I'm not sure a bowl game is in our future, but we are a much more improved team this year.
