One of the developments that's become crystal clear with last week with his Twitter support of the "liberation" movement in key battleground states is that Trump has decided to use the pandemic in his ongoing Red-Blue culture war.

But there is increasing evidence on all fronts, (the WP article below on Senior support being just one example) that this idiotic approach is hurting rather than helping his cause.

He needs to get people fired up! I got called a traitor this morning by a Trump friend for saying that I didn't think it was a good idea for Georgia gyms to open. Trump just needs 65 million 85's and he'll win easily!

I don't for a minute understand all the hatred, of people who disagree with your point of view. I am on the side of we HAVE to open things up. Not all at once, not ending doing simple things to avoid the virus, but destroying peoples lives and businesses to save their lives makes no sense to me. Nothing we are doing is going to make it go away, just keep #s down so medical system does not get overwhelmed. Just like any virus it has to run its course, it can do that in the next 12 mos if we let it or it can take 5 years if we keep slowing it down.
I can see the other side of the argument as well, though I don't agree with it.

As for gyms, you will have to reduce #s of people working out, require masks, and do tons of cleaning, and those who go work out will have to understand and accept the risk. We need to get the antibody test running on a huge scale, So those who have had it can go live their lives as normal. Testing for virus only needs to happen for those who are showing signs of it. You could test ok today and get it from someone 10 minutes later. So that test does little to slow the spread.

What makes no sense to me is reopening businesses before the virus is on the downward side of the bell curve. Trump's own guidelines for reopening calls for States to have two weeks of declining numbers before moving to Stage One. So why is Georgia so hell bent on reopening now?

I fail to understand how following the science is "destroying peoples' lives and businesses." Seems to me we risk a hell of a lot more damage by taking Georgia's approach.

Yep. A great depression that lasts 3 years and ends in world War is nothing compared to coronavirus

Why? Sweden's numbers aren't mass death. California study shows the death rate might only be .02-.04% and many already had it. Just delaying with the half shutdown. You can stay inside. Nobody is stopping you.

This makes no sense. In a world where people travel frequently, there shouldn't be such a disparity in mortality rates. People should stay in until we can get a better grasp as to why this is happening?

You can’t argue this point with someone who is old and doesn’t have to work. They just don’t understand

Go out at your own risk. Like getting into a car.

There are ~300 auto fatalities in New York per year. There have been 20k Covid deaths this month there. One of these things is not like the other.

You are still trying to use logic to change the mind of literal inbreds. They aren't smart enough to understand why they are wrong.

As a soon to be 65 year old I have to decide and do what I need to do to protect myself. In my case I will avoid large crowds, no live sports, not bars and night clubs, No Disney or other theme parks, or major events. That is my responsibility and my choice, Shop less and only as needed, gloves/mask. But I have no right to destroy others lives and make them live like a hermit.
We should require 14 day quarantine for the infected, Life is not 100% safe, and we have the responsibility to decide what and how much risk we wish to take. I ride a motorcycle, and drive everyday in a car, tons of people die on the 2 of them. It is a risk I am willing to take. Others wouldn't do both, and that is their choice.
