Tulane has 645 yards of offense and the game's not over yet....

Is this TWill or on Gibbs he his the DB coach.
Not sure who calls the D formations/coverages. I'd guess it's T-Will....but Gibbs and Addison Williams should have been coaching technique to the DB's all season and it's been terrible (and getting worse game by game). So, the problem is probably both the D staff and the talent of our DB's. Both appear to need significant improvement.

Isn't that always the cop-out when teams play bad?

They wrapped up well I thought.

It's the coverage that has been the prob all season.

Tulane threw for almost 400 yards?? Guess how many pass defections our CB's had?

Big freakin surprise...

Can’t defend the Defensive coaching, but the truth is the entire secondary personnel has never been good, and most have been 3-year starters. I don’t know if they are slow or just lack football instincts, but it’s been 3 years of no interceptions, no deflections, no jumps on routes, guys just standing around in space while receivers jog to open holes and make easy catches.

The best DB was Quadric Bullard, and when he got injured things seemed to completely unravel.

If you are playing 5 DBs and only 2 LBs, how are there so many open receivers? And since there are, what is the point of playing that system?

I don’t think they’ve recovered from the Defensive attrition of the Heupel era. Those recruiting classes produced nothing. Look at Tulane and Cincinnati’s LBs and DBs — they are clearly better, bigger, stronger, faster. They need to find those guys.

The Huepel era recruiting REALLY is a big part of this problem. Gus and Co. Have actually tried to shore up the D with a lot of good transfers that have helped and/or will help, added depth. Jennings and Lewis would have had significant playing time if they didn’t quit, they really f*d that up. Just can’t hide the bad recruiting especially with all the injuries we’ve had, no depth.

Our best committed recruits under Gus have been and are really highly rated and talented defensive positions. Need some more OL, DL, LBs and DBs

I wanna know what happened with Nico when got burned on that one pass play. I didn't see the replay.
Thornton was lined up on the wide out and Nico on the slot. Both were about 8 yards off the line of scrimmage. The wide out went deep (ran right past both of them) and the slot just hung out around the line of scrimmage. It was a blown coverage. If it was man coverage, then Thornton should have stayed with the wide out. If not, he was Nico's. The way Thornton reacted, it wasn't man. Nico bit on a slight fake by the QB toward the slot, froze and got smoked. Hopefully lesson learned.

We contained him better the first time we played them. What happened this time?
He had 8 carries in the first matchup, for 130 yards. Being down early is most likely what kept him from running the ball more.

Does no one watch the games? Scary since you all have such strong opinions.

He got hurt the first game, luckily, b/c he was torching us then too. Probably the only reason we won.
