Tutorial of UCF's new offense.

Actually, a lot of experts like Brandon feel that no one on this team can run it.
I'm strongly against starting a guy with one year of eligibility left. That's so pointless.

Yea I think Coach Bowden would disagree with you there...

Coach Bowden?? Does he have an interest in UCF??? Has he been following us?? Has this type of exact situation been experienced at FSU??

Who is this, Mike Bianchi??

I have no problem is he gets it and the others do not. It gives them a year to learn the system. If a one year starter means we go 6-6 next year rather than 3-9, I will take 6-6.

Anybody can run it if you understand it. It's simple read option with the OL pulling to put an extra blocker at the point of attack. You get a speedy RB that can get through the hole, a QB that can exploit 1-on-1 match ups in the secondary or if the DL commits to the RB tuck and run. Basic football.

The beauty of this is that the OL is moving to establish an advantage rather than the old squat like a sumo wrestler and push stuff we had our OL doing :) Remember GOL was a defensive coach first.

Also, this staff is using a different golden rule for recruiting than previous staff. New golden rule is: "You can't teach or develop fast. This has to be there." Old golden rule: "We can make any player what we want/need if they are big and we have a good weight program." Speed was not THE #1 priority but now it is because everybody is moving (adjusting) in this new system.

Here comes the offensive fireworks :)

You said not to start a QB with one year of eligibility left, which is what Bowden was known for during his most successful period.

Yeah..but not with a whole new coach and an offensive system that takes time to implement. It's a completely different situation.

Are they referring to no QB can run it or no player at all? That seems like an extreme assessment.

I'm all for the best players on the field regardless of how many years they have left.

It seems that the most important thing that the QB needs is not speed but the ability to make the correct read. He needs to be smart on the field. Now who currently fit the bill on that one?

No. Remember that this offense is more run oriented than pass oriented. The other offensive style (Baylor for example) that is popular out there is more of the West Coast, short pass to run derivative. You see a lot of this now in the AAC. It's not dependent on the line movement of the Oregon offense and focuses on running plays that start by bypassing the line of scrimmage with a short pass (left, right or 5 yards down the field).

This (Oregon) offense has more of a Navy flair because they force the defense to play the run first but we know Navy has no passing game.

yep every skill position recruited seems to run or 4.5 or faster regardless of rating

Most likely not on the current roster yet Qbs from last year. We shouldn't waste time on a QB who is graduating IMO over an underclassman who will be around to perfect it.

Which means there will be attrition in the existing team once practice starts, and also means that Frost will need some sort of hybrid system this season. No way he can implement this fully until probably 2018.

Watch the video and you will see the OL moving left or right and sometimes doing cross blocking wiseguy :)
Now compare that to the video and movement of our offensive line. GOL was famous for getting on our OL to keep moving their feet. It's not an option with new blocking scheme.

The key to this offense is giving away where you are likely to run the ball. There are 4 options according to how everyone lines up. Inside zone read right and left, outside zone read right or left. Once the defense sees where the ball is suppose to go, they will attack that spot.

I think the only hybrid that you may need is a TE which could be interesting. It's better to fully implement the system this year, let whoever can't hang transfer and recruit the max next year. The offense might be better with these receivers, they seem bigger than the ones at Oregon.

Exactly. This offense is simple in its design as it runs off of 4 basic formations. Inside zone read right and left, outside zone read right and left. It tells the defense where on the field the ball is most likely to go. The defense will then try to attack that spot. If they over pursue, the OL pushed them completely out of the play. It's all a guessing game like the original Tecmo bowl of 4 plays, RB dive, RB cut back, QB run, QB throw. If the defense guesses correctly, then the play goes for a big loss. However, because the offense is going so fast the coaches can't really help the defense out. Whatever the defense does, there is a way to get a big play out of it.
