John Heisler was unceremoniously let go by Notre Dame in January after spending 40 years in their athletic department. He was close with former AD Kevin White (Danny's father) but saw his role diminished in recent years under Jack Swarbrick.

Press release:

UCF KNIGHTS ENGAGE WITH LONG-TIME COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST JOHN HEISLER

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Legendary veteran of intercollegiate athletics media relations and communications John Heisler will join the UCF Knights as a consultant immediately, UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White announced Friday.

Heisler previously spent over 40 years as a member of the University of Notre Dame athletics staff. His tenure included 16 years as sports information director at Notre Dame after spending 10 previous years as a member of the sports publicity staff. He added the title of assistant athletics director in 1995, and then was named an associate athletics director in 2001. Heisler was promoted to senior associate athletics director in October 2004.

Heisler has written, co-written or edited 11 books on Notre Dame football, in addition to editing the acclaimed and award-winning “Strong of Heart” publication that annually featured 20 stories about individuals connected to Notre Dame athletics.

Heisler will be responsible for assisting the strategic communications department with the continued advancement of the UCF brand on the national stage.

“We’re excited to work with someone like John, who has such a strong reputation nationally,” White said. “He will bring a wealth of knowledge to our organization as we continue to build a Top 25 intercollegiate athletics department.”
