While the players with the ball get the most attention, it's the offensive linemen in Oregon's offense that makes it all come together.
New UCF coach Scott Frost, the Ducks' former offensive coordinator, needs quick and agile linemen that can block on the move.
Boman Swanson, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound tackle at Homestead (Fla.) South Dade, fits exactly what he's looking for. He picked up an offer on Tuesday.
"I had been in contact with the coaches at UCF before and they told me things were looking good," Swanson said. "They were just waiting for the head coach to be finalized. When Frost was hired, he called me like the next day. He told me what he was about and that all sounded really good."
Kevin Smith has taken to the road recruiting and he had an in-home visit with Swanson and his family Tuesday night.
"I had a feeling an offer was coming," Swanson said. "My running back, Jawon Hamilton, they had offered him previously and he had the feeling they were going to offer me. (Smith) was just talking about how they really like my footwork and my athletic ability. I'm a big guy that can run that doesn't really get tired. Obviously with Coach Frost coming in from Oregon, the offense is going to be fantastic. That's what he talked to me about."
Swanson said there's a lot he already likes about UCF.
"I've been up to the school before, but I haven't seen all of it," he said. "I really love the area of Orlando. It's not too far away but enough to kind of get away. The school is one of the biggest in the country in enrollment. I like everything about it. It's my biggest offer for sure. With the new coaching staff coming in, I'm looking forward to see what they can do. I think it would be a great school to go to."
An official visit will likely occur in January.
"We talked about Jan. 15," Swanson said. "That's when they're trying to get both me and Jawon to come up."
Western Kentucky had an in-home visit with Swanson on Wednesday. A visit there is possible as is FAU. Those two, along with UCF, consist of his top three with UCF out in front.
"The way I feel with the coaches obviously will be a big factor with me," Swanson said. "I'll be spending four or five years of my life there. You've got to like who you're going to be around. The biggest thing for me is being comfortable with the coaches."
While Frost has made a few early hires, he has not named an offensive line coach. Swanson says Frost told him they should have news on that position in "no longer than two weeks."
