UCF-bound Brendon Hayes puts academics first with college decision

Very smart kid.....long after your athletic career is over being able to earn over $200k as an Engineer makes for a decent living

A breath of fresh air in this money grabbing, instant gratification, look at me world of college football. I am sure that UCF's graduation rate and emphasis on academics helped. But I have to tell you that it is hard enough to get an engineering degree without the demands of a football schedule. I assume that having all the tutors and other help can make it easier.

I hope the guy becomes an academic all-American.

Well that's a silly statement.

Of course the media is going to focus on players with most the pro-potential and players who get peoples attention, so it naturally follows that those are going to be the athletes whom you're most exposed to. Just remember that every time a Johnny Football lined up, there were 21 other student athletes out there. Players whose names you or I will never remember, who got their degrees, helped their schools team, and were quietly forgotten.
