Lee Hunter led the team in tackles. That is amazing.

DeJordan Mask being placed at Star was the best move of the offseason.

The front four got pressure without having to bring extra defenders.

Malachi Lawrence flashed late. He will be an important part of the front in conference games.

UCF is getting tackles out of its front seven. Only one safety (Wilson, a converted linebacker) is listed among the top eight tacklers.

Outside of one deep ball on a trick/busted play that was called back, UCF kept the top of the defense. The secondary did a good job covering deep balls.

Disliked

UCF has to figure out the cornerback situation or it will ultimately cost the Knights a win or two and deny UCF a shot at the title game.

Jason Johnson didn't shine. I think he is a better fit for Travis Williams' scheme, but he will be just fine. (For those who remember, I alluded to this in the offseason.)

UCF allowed Kent State to maintain drives on a few possessions and needed a phantom holding call to maintain a two-score lead early.

I will need to rewatch the game because I know I have missed something.

wasn't the deep ball that was called back because of the lineman being 5 yards past the line of scrimmage only possible because the safety seeing the lineman downfield keys on a run?

Lol.

That's more of a convenient excuse than justifiable reason.

Wide as the widest, deep as the deepest.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the film session when a kid says he got beat deep because he saw an offensive lineman 6 yards downfield.

Do an offensive thread too

Our ability to stop the run up the middle or up the gut is terrible. They we're easily running the ball up the gut! I'm worried. NAVY all over again. :(

Yes

That was mentioned during the broadcast. I didn't include it here because UCF held Kent State to under 100 yards rushing. An ELITE SEC defense like ugay or uat would have limited Kent State under 50 yards rushing. So UCF's performance wasn't terrible, but it was far from great.

The Bigger picture moving forward: The Kent State run game shows UCF still has problems with run fits unter Ernie Sims that it had under Travis Williams.

Exactly Auburn, they have not fixed the defensive line. We'll see what Boise State does to us. Ugh! ps: Kent State QB had too much time to throw also.

I think he is saying the penalty that brought the Kent st. Deep ball back was an ineligible lineman downfield, not a “phantom holding call.”
