Let's discuss...
Disney owns 80%, Hearst owns 20%. Since Disney owns the biggest stake, they have the controlling interest in the company. And for the most part, ESPN is referred to as a Disney owned property.
So here UCF sits in Orlando, Florida, home of Disney, ESPN Wide World of Sports. USF is only an hour away. We have an INCREDIBLE market combining Orlando and Tampa. Questions for discussion?
1. Does UCF, Dr. Hitt, or any major UCF stakeholders have any connections to Disney?
2. If so, and if Disney owns the biggest stake in ESPN, and if UCF has major connections to Disney, how can we leverage or make inroads to marketing UCF and Disney as partners and thereby driving expansion? Is this even possible?
3. So far everyone has been pretty impressed with Danny White and his vision. Is there any plan in the works for Danny White to reach out to Disney/ESPN? .
Finally, lets not BS ourselves. We all know damn well that both UCF and USF will pretty much sell out their stadiums week-to-week (USF's lower bowl) if we are both in the Big 12. Does anybody have any doubt that both Orlando and Tampa will rally around UCF and USF if there is any type of expansion? Put aside our hate for USF...when they are decent, and bring in P5 teams, they fill the stands pretty damn well. They've proven it in the past and would prove it again...just as we have. You all remember the average attendance I posted for all our P5 opponents we've played at BHNS...it was something like 44K, and that's with that awful attendance for the Missou game a few years back.
IF it's even possible...How the hell does UCF and USF partner to get Disney to rally behind these two great markets and drive Big 12 expansion to Florida?
Anyway...I think this is a great discussion and I'd love to know if this is possible and how it can be driven.
