This is not good for UCF.

No matter how anyone chooses to look at it, no matter how it is spun, UCF starting off the season 0-3 is not good.

When you are UCF, stuck in the middle of top football programs Florida, Florida State and Miami, it's hard enough to recruit.

But this is bad.

Losing to FIU was bad.

Losing to Stanford. Well, OK, most people can accept that.

Losing to Furman?

This is an FCS program that had yet to win a game this season.

Losing to the Paladins? The what? (In its generic sense, a Paladin is a knight, in case anyone wondered. We won't get into the whole King Charlemagne's Court and the Holy Roman Empire.)

In case you hadn't looked it up already, Furman is in Greenville, S.C. Former Florida Gators and NFL quarterback Ingle Martin transferred there when things didn't work out in Gainesville. Former Tampa Bay Bucs coach Sam Wyche played there.

This isn't just bad. It's “pathetic,” said one recruit who witnessed the UCF debacle Saturday night.

There weren't many recruits visiting for the UCF-Furman game, fortunately for the Knights, but Osceola cornerback Carlos Becker, one of the top cornerbacks in the country and ranked No. 38 nationally by 247Sports.com's composite rankings, stayed for the entire fiasco.

He was there with Osceola offensive linemen Mike Marriott and Chayse Gray. Some others in the crowd were Windermere Prep long snapper/tight end Brett DioGuardi and Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas receiver Dominic Thieman
