UCF Leaves Trophy at UCONN

Trophy games have to be agreeable by both parties. UCF never acknowledged it.

Am I the only one who thinks that having an annual rivalry with UConn with something on the line might be worth pursuing?

Although if there is going to be a rivalry UCF threw the gauntlet down by dissing the trophy. Might just spark something there.

The absurdity of it all kind of makes me look forward to the ConFLiCT each year now. In a sense, Diaco has succeeded.

For basically a made up conference where nobody is going anywhere for the foreseeable future, we need every rivalry we can get that gets press and creates interest. You want to be P6, start rivalries build hatred, even if it was made up to begin with. 8 years down the road, if both sides buy into it, who will care that it's made up. It could be worse, they could have picked usf and left us out as meaningless, after all, they have years more experience with them.

Did they target us at the time because we were at the top of the conference?

Last year was first time so no.

I think Diaco created it before a game was played in 2015, so we were coming off back to back titles. Diaco said he admired the program Oleary had built as a reason for picking UCF. Little did he know that the program was about to go O-fer. Made it look even worse. lol, it's truly stranger than fiction.

this. The worst that can happen is maybe a few UConn fans will buy into it and travel down here and we'll sell a few extra tickets.

I see no harm with the rivalry and felt that we kind of spit in their faces. We're going to be playing them for the foreseeable future and things can change over time - programs can change. If the rivalry goes nowhere then no big deal but we could do worse with a rivalry then UConn IMHO.

Yup, coming off back-to-back titles - and the only conference loss that 2nd year was to UConn. Not to sound like a UCiFer here - but a win in the UConn game that year would have been back-to-back undefeated seasons in AAC conference play, and a likely end of year ranking. So yeah, I can see why Diaco would make up the rivalry.

If this weren't UConn, but a "better" football program would anyone be receptive to it?
Which programs? Miami, FSU, ECU?
If both of us were in the Big 12 would we be more receptive to it?

So by leaving the trophy behind does that mean the conflict is over? USF is looking for trophies to fill their trophy case! :sunglasses:

Scott Frost knows college football better than I ever will hope to. He knows what needs to happen to get this program to where it needs to be. I have to believe he stiff-armed the idea for a reason. I would've been receptive to playing along as a fan just because it makes things more fun, but whatever is best for UCF is fine here.

Can't force a trophy game down our throats. Frost has much bigger and better plans for UCF. He's got attitude and I love it. Let's start acting like winners and FUKC the civil conflict. It's small time football. The time for swagger has to start sometime soon, so why not now? It's over forever!!!!

Yes. You are correct. We spit in thier faces. Blatantly.

You can have all the great plans for UCF, but we aren't independent anymore, we aren't in anyone's plans to expand anymore (as far as we know), you might as well build the conference. You can try to be Boise all you want they still get crap MWC money and we'd still get crap AAC money. You need to build the conference and this silly made up rivalry in a made-up conference hurts no one.

It was made for last year, has the previous years score on it and conveniently leaves off the year Bortles pounded the crap out of them. We should have taken the stupid thing and carved 62-17 on the damn thing.

Just a question, which is more stupid, this made up one, or the stupidity of UCF-usf FINALLY waking up and admitting and recognizing that rivalry. Talk about being asleep at the wheel for a decade or so.

It's irrelevant. It's over. Ended yesterday.

I don't think you can just manufacture a rivalry with a trophy.

I do think you can manufacture a rivalry by blatantly disrespecting the made-up rivalry trophy though.

Don't think UCONN won't remember this in the future and lay the wood to us IF THEY EVER EVEN get the chance.

This "rivalry" ends by us beating the snot out of them every year.

I think the so called rivalry might become more intense by the fact that we intentionally left the trophy behind.

It wasn't intentional, UConn never even mentioned to our staff where the trophy was or what the procedure would be.

Their players think the rivalry is a joke. Their fans think the rivalry is a joke. Diaco avoided talking about it all week leading to the game.

There's no rivalry.

We should have taken it and melted it down for our thrown...

The whole farce with the Big 12 expansion fiasco shows that there's no reason to foster a trophy type rivalry. There's no state rivalry and no conference allegiance.

And I would not be a proponent of creating a trophy for war on I-4 rivalry between USF and UCF.

What Frost did by leaving it is another example of his upside as a coach :)

That trophy has already been created.
