UCF ranked #83 top public institution

New College is a liberal arts school. Not saying it's a good or bad school but I never knew of anyone from New College getting an actual job. On that fact alone it makes me wonder what criteria they used.

I don't know their reasoning but 16 U of Georgia if you remember last summer's discussion on here about grade inflation, Georgia has inflated their grades the highest in the nation. And is 63 usf that much better? And UAB has the nickname of "The Vanderbilt of C-USA" which I didn't know till the articles about them killing football. Plus, one the most difficult, most respected and difficult to enter public universities in Georgia is 143 Georgia College and State University- i.e. if you can't get in there then there's always UGA.http://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/pag...izjournals/news/2015/02/12/college139861.html

Oh, just looked at their reasoning and saw actual education or knowledge of the professor's was a small bit of it. Now I know why #143 GCSU is so low on the list- the surrounding area is quite poor- it's in the middle of nowhere.

UCF is getting killed on the rankings because of its extremely high student-faculty ratio. At 31:1, its among the highest in the country and the highest in the state. If UCF could get that down, it would help its rankings tremendously. UCF is hiring 100 new faculty for next year, but that is likely only going to knock it down to 30:1. UF, by comparison, is 21:1, USF is 24:1. UCF is seeking funding for the following year to knock it down to 28:1. Hopefully they'll continue to make that a main focus to get it in line with the rest of the state and country, since the rankings are so dependent on that.

We need a larger endowment and better faculty. That ratio does hurt us a bit but we also have a decent share of instructors instead of professors. Building academic tradition takes a lot longer than football tradition

I remember some of my teachers saying flat out, "I'm teaching this one class because I have to" and "I utilize 75% of my time for research and 25% for teaching" --- not sure if that is reflective of all faculty, but it appeared true for the sciences.

Research is the main reason professors are there. They have to publish or they perish.
