If both Davis' drive, no matter what happens, they will still shoot. Even if they are closed down by four guys. They really need to learn how to drive and dish it with the three point shooters that we have..
AJ Davis lead the team in assists so far this year...just because he does the above..but AJ's best offensive play is still driving the lane...getting opposing bigs in foul trouble...then being able to convert about 85% from the FT line.
Yes, sometimes AJ does it out of control but since he is basically getting major mins for the first time in college as a redshirt Soph, he is still learning and his future at UCF is extremely bright. And while AJ has improved his 3 pt shooting of late...I'd still prefer he drive even more to the lane to get to the FT line even more.
Without BJ Taylor doing the above (driving and dishing which he excels at), that was a big loss for the team this year as Tacko would have benefited greatly if BJ was our point...as BJ is the best at alley ooop inside passes and Tacko would probably have double the dunks this year if BJ was healthy.
AJ has to get to the line (team has to stay aggressive to that UCF can get the other team in the bonus early so even ticky tacky fouls on AJ around the perimeter normally leads to 2 pts once in the bonus.
AJ didn't get to the line even for 1 shot yesterday...as normally the more aggressive team, which was UCF, gets to the line a lot more than the 3 pt shooting team (Tulsa threw up 32 shots from downtown), but the refs swallowed their whistle a lot on UCF's action down low. Once or twice, the ESPN announces that AJ and/or McBride "got mugged"/mauled by multiple defenders yet no whistle was blown.
Hopefully UCF can stay aggressive vs Memphis...get Shaq and their other bigs into foul trouble...and hopefully have UCF bigs stay out of foul trouble, which they got into in the first half vs Tulsa.
