Didn’t even know he was on the team til the Houston win. He played wellHuge game by Bertz as well. Not just running around but making some big 3s.
Easy turnovers leads to easy baskets. Plus it wears down the guards on the offenseI don't see this full-press defense very often in college, or maybe I just don't watch a lot of college basketball outside UCF. How can this possibly be effective? Sure, it worked a couple times for VCU tonight having 2 or 3 guys up front breathing in our face, but often it left unguarded guys down the court. This gives Terrel or BJ opportunities to chuck the ball downfield to an open guy. Not to mention, this extra running has to tire out the defense quicker. What am I missing here?
There's probably not many teams(if any) that run a full court press like VCU. It does a few things though. First, it'll expose poor guard play. If they don't have good ball handling or make good decisions, then it'll create turnovers for easy points. Second, it takes time off of shot clock. If it takes you 10 seconds to clear the press and get organized, 1/3 of the clock has already run off so teams have less time to get a good look and run their offense. Third, it'll expose teams with poor depth. A full press team like VCU typically goes 10+ deep so that they can keep up the pressure all game and the other team will be worn out by the end of the game if they aren't able to give their main players some rest.I don't see this full-press defense very often in college, or maybe I just don't watch a lot of college basketball outside UCF. Many times UCF slows the game down offensively with big leads and they lose. They play slow and sloppy and have a hard time getting back in rhythm and wait too long in the shot clock looking to score. I'm glad they didn't wait too long to get back in tempo. Duke will be a big test for us to see where we really stand. Can't wait.Told you they will go on a run, let’s hold them back. They’re too good to be given any confidence
