Perhaps, when he regains his outside shooting stroke. First game, the rustiness really showed in every single phase of the game; even in the second half when the old B.J. came out, he was forcing his drives inside and getting beat up something fierce.
Yesterday, we saw what Dawkins wanted: a real live point guard. Nice to have a former national player of the year to help you. A great pass off on a drive among his 10 assists. Freshman B.J. didn't and couldn't have done that. Remember, he was a 34 ppg scorer in high school lighting up the scoreboard every game.
As a frosh, Jones moved him to a 2-guard on his 3 guard sets, just so B.J. wouldn't tire from bringing the ball up and could get open for catch-and-shoots. Tacko has really improved, but with B.J., we finally have a point who can get him the touches early in each possession to free up everyone for open shots if Fall passes back out.
Remember, in BJ's Freshmen season...Goodwin was basically the point guard (wasn't a real scoring threat) so BJ got to play off the ball much of the time...lead UCF in scoring as a true freshmen (almost 13 pts per game) and was #2 on the team in assists.
Last year, after Goodwin was booted off the team, BJ was suppose to be the new point guard...but that didn't happen due to his injury and now everyone is seeing what type of player he can be.
Even as a true freshmen, here were just some of his highlights in a season where he was named to the All-AAC Rookie Team.
