UF-FSU moved to blackfriday

Well, they have to replace the superior, more interesting game once it ends next year. But seriously, I and my family moved from Florida in the early 90s back when- even tho I hated both teams, I thought everyone in the US watched the game. We moved to near Seattle and guess what? I was completely surprised that no one actually gave a crap about the UF/FSU game. No ONE (excepting their own graduates). UF/FSU is just a very, very small part of rivalry week. I know my wife's family thinks the world revolves around UF, but surprise---only Fl gives a crap about them, or FSU for that matter (and reality sets in no one outside Fl cares about a Fl team, they know them (referencing another thread where someone was stupid enough ...... blah) but they don't give a crap. Nobody cares about the UF-FSU game which is why they have to play it on Friday because no one would watch it when the game they actually care about is playing Sat. (yes I do realize no one cared about any AAC game)

Large parts of the country doesn't care about college football in general. Especially in Northeast and Northwest unless it involved the local college playing and even then that fell behind every pro sport team and some college basketball teams.

If you go back to pre digital cable, and pre and early internet. The only way you ever even heard of a college football game was maybe watching a 30 seconds clip on sportscenter or reading the newspaper.

and in the last 5 years or so it feels like the sport is turning into a niche regional sport like NASCAR. It used to feel bigger and it was covered/promoted much more by espn and other networks

Its hard to tell where it's headed, but really it shouldn't be a national sport. It's weird if you have people in the northeast or out west rooting for a college football team they have zero affiliation with and is 1000s of miles away.

College sports should remain more small time, it shouldn't compete with pro sports. Unless the end game is to have college sports be ran exactly like pro sports.

I agree...I lived in VA for a while and nobody, besides maybe myself, took an interest in the UF/FSU game. The regional matches were the talked about games at work (UVA vs. VT, UNC vs NCSU).

So are you guys saying you don’t watch UT-OU, Michigan- OSU, USC-UCLA, SC-Clemson, Alabama-Auburn etc. because you aren’t near them? Those are usually big games that affect the CFP one way or another. You don’t have to root for 1 team to watch the game. I’ve watched AAC teams as well to see how they are playing. I wouldn’t watch Washington- Washington State unless 1 of them is top 10. Which is hardly ever.

Casual fan is not watching all those games, you will often hear on this board fans not interested in games that don't involve UCF or have impact on their bowl landing spot. I've attended large parties for Mich/OSU in Florida, where virtually everyone is die hard fans of one or the other side, but once the game is over 90% of the attendees is done watching football and the other games may be on in the background.

Casual fans only go to games to party and leave early. Then go to beach or restaurant after. I actually hate going to Super Bowl parties because most of the people don’t pay attention to game. Talking nonsense all game. The people that do watch are looking at squares mostly.

Haha I've noticed this as well but I don't follow NFL much so it's fine for me.

Watch a crowd on Saturday at UCF, what do you often see, a a vast amount of fans miss 1/5th of the game to continue tailgating, and then miss the last 1/3rd when the game is decided. They end up watching maybe 3 quarters at the most. And these are people that have a genuine tie to a team playing, by being affiliated to the school. People come to party, and see if their team wins, but don't actually care about the game itself.

Super Bowl party is generally watching two teams where 90% of the time no one in the party roots for either team. Its all about the party and food.
