The toughest President on Russia since WW2 continues with the pressure on Russia, this time slapping tough new sanctions on them in response to the chemical agent used in the UK.

Russia is enraged and their stock market tanked overnight. But hey- Trump winked at Putin!!!!1

Russia will "work on developing retaliatory measures," foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told journalists, accusing the US of "demonising Russia".

"We consider categorically unacceptable the linking of new restrictions, which we as before consider illegal, to the case in Salisbury," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

Trump was pressured a few weeks ago by Republican congressmen as to why he missed a deadline to act. They did this because of pressure from real civil servants not because they are principled in any way.

And these sanctions are mandated by a law passed in 1991.

"The 1991 Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare Elimination Act “requires the President to make a determination with respect to whether a country has used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law or has used lethal chemical or biological weapons against its own nationals.” Once that determination is made, sanctions are mandated, unless the president determines it is in the national-security interest of the United States to waive them."
