1. Losing Koby Perry on an already devastated secondary had an impact. Out of position, even a situation where 12 was distracted on a goal line play trying to get 8 in position.Linebackers also played pretty poorly.
2. Some quit and fatigue in our defense early in 2nd half. I went back earlier this week and watched 2008 game and this defense was opposite of that team. Little intensity. Honestly, played soft comparatively. Some serious jogging going on .
3. Field position amplified/compounded the situation. From the turnovers to the penalty on kick returns. It was like USFs worst field position was the 50. Only way their comeback was possible. Almost uncanny…statistically a blue bird situation.
4. MK played better than people let on. He doesn’t bring xfactor against rush weak defenses, but QB is not reason we are losing games…..First drive ended in a field goal due to penalty. Yes he fumbled..that’s oh him. Had a nice drive after that for 7. Next drive #1 missed a big catch which stalled that drive. Next drive - Harvey fumbles. Next drive - Classic drive for the win.
5. Back to defense. Would be great to hear from @CoverSix why we were so bad on the line and also being gap sound. We looked like Swiss cheese. Nothing like when we played Tulane, Memphis, Cincy. Defense just looks tired . How can that change?
In summary, the nature of turnovers as well as field position after special teams plays facilitated a statistically unlikely scenario. Offense played great sans TURNOVERS. Defense looked pretty bad. We have to be WAY better to win Saturday. If defense doesn’t rest and get pep back in step we lose by double digits.
