USWNT great Michelle Akers hopes Orlando Pride coaching gig opens doors for other former stars to lead

Many folks on this board (especially those under 30) may not know that Michelle Akers is a UCF alumnus who was considered the greatest female soccer player in the world back in the day. FIFA recognized her as Female Player of the CENTURY and she is more famous worldwide than our beloved UCF football heroes such as Culpepper, Bortles, and Milton.
Happy to see she’s coming “home” to Orlando to be a part of the sport she loves. Wishing her the very best.

All done while suffering from a bizarre disease/condition that is probably better understood today. She used to get fluid IVs during games to help.

I went to UCF 85-89. Akers years. She was great. I use to run 5 miles a day around research park and the campus. She would to and I would try to keep up and couldn't. I think she did 10 miles a day. I didn't know her but saw her in action. Super athlete. That is cool she is back in Orlando. Kind of a forgotten UCF great. Hope she does good. I do remember watching her in the olympics but don't remember much on that. Just UCF experience. I didn't follow soccer back then and still don't all that much.
