Transcript of GOL's comments:

On Holman's injury:

"We lost him on the first play. But that wasn't the telltale of the game. I think the two other kids went in, both freshmen, it was their first time playing. We hung in there for the first half. We had the defense out there too often, but poor play on defense in the second half. I don't know how many yards they had, but half had to be on missed tackles."

On Taj McGowan getting the start at RB:

"I thought Taj went out and did a nice job. First time playing, did a good job. I thought both quarterbacks for their first time taking snaps in a Division I game went out and performed. A lot of situations were based on poor right tackle, left tackle play. I'm more disappointed with the players we gave up on defense. 3rd and 20 and 92 yards, I don't know how many missed tackles. You just can't do that and win football games. You really can't. We've got to continue to work and get better. I'm disappointed from the standpoint of production and performance."

On the drive that ended with a Stanback fumble:

"That was the one drive we were moving the ball. It was not even a contact fumble. That's what bothers me. An unforced error. Then we gave up the big play. They made a good call, a trick play gadget, then allowed another big play for a field goal. I thought we put the defense out there too often and needed to sustain more on offense. But when they're out there they have a responsibility to stop the ball. But give credit to Stanford. I thought Stanford made some very good plays tonight."

On what he told the team afterward:

"Disappointed. I asked them to do one thing tonight, leave the game with great effort. I thought second half for the most part guys gave great effort, but too many guys could have made plays that didn't make them. The film doesn't lie. We've still got to try and get the best 11 on the field. They're young, but they have to learn how to finish a game."

More on the Holman injury:

"First play really. Got hurt. Clean play. Helmet hit his hand. My understanding is he's out. I don't know what the injury is. It's in a stint. Got to get the two freshman quarterbacks ready to play. I thought they did a decent job, but you have to run to help them out."

On the skill sets of Schneider and Harris:

"About the same. The two kids played very similarly. Both are freshmen, one is a freshman and the other is a redshirt freshman. I thought they gave us a lot of different looks, secondary wise, coverage wise. At times they made freshman mistakes. Give credit to Stanford for changing things up and putting pressure on the quarterback when they needed to do that."

On how much the game plan changed with Holman unavailable:

"Big. A lot. That's not the reasons you lose the game. Our defense has got to play well. I thought they played sporadically in the first half and very displeased in the second half from a lack of tackling to a lack of pressure. Give credit to Stanford, they made plays when they had to make them."

GOL acknowledged at the end that center Joey Grant is injured and that CB D.J. Killings is suspended and didn't travel with the team."
