Shaquill Griffin spoke for a couple minutes after practice on Tuesday. The UCF cornerback ranks second on the team with 12 tackles and has been credited with three pass breakups in the first two games.
George O'Leary said on Monday the biggest areas to be addressed revolved around the play of the defensive backs and wide receivers.
"Just more contact speed and wrapping up with tackles," Griffin said when asked what they've been working on. "Coverage, we're doing a lot better not giving up as many deep balls. Now we've got to make tackles. We're the last line of defense. Wide receiver and defensive back are the youngest groups and there is a lot of pressure on us, but we've got to take on that role."
Furman does a lot of things on offense, including some occasional option. Starter Reese Hannon has completed about 55 percent of his passes through the first two games.
"One thing about Furman is they're a big play-action team, so we're looking into that," Griffin said. "We're ready to defend anything we have to defend... Against FIU we came out a little slow. We can't have that happen this game. We've got to treat every team like they're the best and that's what we're going to do with Furman."
