Easily the 2nd best show running behind Game of Thrones.

Casting Katherryn Winnick in a lead role also helps

Just finished watching the season last night. I have to say, I was really disappointed in this season. It never felt right. I also hate how they ended it. Very awkward time jump.

Yea, they dicked around too much, but this was just the mid-season finale. There's 10 more episodes coming out in September I think.

They had to jump ahead at some point since Ragnar's kids go on to be more powerful than he ever was as a Viking. This is supposedly Travis Fimmel's last season on the show, so I'm guessing it'll end with Ragnar dying (we know he does) either in battle or in a snake pit, followed by his sons invading to take revenge.

I mean, I know Ragnar has to eventually die. My only problem is the lack of development of the next main character. Im not sure which way they are going to go. Im not sure Bjorn wants to step up and not really sure about any of his other kids. I have a gut feeling it will be Ivar.

Ivar becomes arguably the most notorious Viking from this entire era. So yea.

The show's problem is that Ragnar is such an overwhelming character; he makes everyone else around him seem kind of dull. They're going to struggle keeping the show interesting beyond his death if that's the plan. Then again they could easily stretch out the story for another season or two if Fimmel stays.

Is the show losely based on real events? I never really looked into it.

Yes, loosely. For example, the landing raids in northern England was like 100 years before they raided Paris. In the show it's a matter of just a few years difference.

There was no real written history out of Scandinavia prior to the Christians later arriving, so their history is basically carried down via stories.
