Was Lochte actually (at least mostly) telling the truth?

Since the media has already assured itself that these guys were all lying assholes that are embarrassments to the nation, it may be worth reading this USA Today article which pokes a lot of holes in this mostly Brazilian Government narrative that these kids were dicks who tore apart a gas station and were confronted by do-good "security guards".

A video crew went to this bathroom after the fact and found no evidence of any damage and the door that was supposedly "ripped off" was entirely fine.

There has also been no video footage produced showing any of these guys tearing apart the gas station.

It seems that this really happened: they couldn't get in to piss, so they pissed around the side, and 2 of the thousands of corrupted police decided to make this into a massive "crime" and use it as an opportunity to shake them down at gunpoint for a few hundred bucks to "pay the fine".
