It's Bo Time.
Without the services of quarterback Justin Holman for at least the next few weeks, UCF will start true freshman Bo Schneider against Furman on Saturday in a game that's nearly closing in on a sellout.
Schneider, who is from Dallas, completed 7-of-19 passes for 46 yards and one interception against Stanford. Redshirt freshman Tyler Harris replaced him in the fourth quarter, going 7-of-15 for 96 yards including a 36-yard touchdown strike toTre'Quan Smith. It's possible both quarterbacks will play.
Not much has gone right offensively this season. The Knights, who have always prided themselves on running the ball, have struggled in that area and that's putting it mildly. UCF ranks nearly dead-last (126 out of 127 FBS teams) in rushing offense with 76 yards on 59 carries, good for a meager 1.29 yards per rush. Making his first college appearance, freshman Taj McGowan did provide a small spark against Stanford last week, rushing for 67 yards on 20 carries.
One would think a FCS team would be what the doctor ordered to gain some confidence before next week's game at South Carolina, but the Knights can't afford to overlook anybody at this point. Furman was blown out at Virginia Tech last week, but nearly upset the No. 1 FCS team, Coastal Carolina, in week one. For what it's worth, UCF is a perfect 20-0 against FCS teams since making the division upgrade in 1996.
Here's a look at every game involving the American and UCF's 2015 non-conference opponents.
