WE'RE MAKING A BOWL!

6-6? Not really exciting given that the defense played exceptional this year and that's half the team (that was on the field for three quarters of the time). The D also won at least two games by scoring most of the points or getting the offense in scoring position. I'll be happily surprised by 6-6 next year.

Then again, bad coaching decisions cost this team a lot too. A smarter coach might have won against Temple and Houston and I've never heard a coach more second guessed by ESPN's D list announcers than Frost.

So 6-6 is about right. Could have lost more if not given such a talented group of DBs to work with and could have won more if someone else called the shots.

HH really hates Frost..

This is a 2-3 win team w GOL on the sideline without the future of talented Freshman like Snelson, Hamilton, & Killins bc they never commit here

Agreed. The Griffins would not have the year they're having either. To the haters, let me guess the Griffins now suck right? Now i know what K_L meant when he said Shaquem should be happy to play much less wonder if he will win or lose a game.

I love Frost, but when GOL was actually engaged in coaching his defense was stout. I think his D would have been similar. The offense this season was not that much off from a GOL offense. I believe this to be Frost having to generate a game plan with players not meant to be in the fast pace offense. We did not see the Oregon offense this year. We saw some strange hybrid

Given our limitations I think the OP is right on. These guys have exceeded expectations, even Milton.

they might not have been on the team either, the last staff sucked their joy of the Sport out of them

also this Defense most likely would not have been as opportunistic forcing as as many turnovers in a 4-3 scheme w less blitz packages which would have been run under the last staff

And you can't underestimate how much these players LOVE playing for Frost and Chinander. The motivation to keep fighting all year and play for him & his vision. That team was outmatched yesterday but kept fighting to have it be a 7 point game up till mid 4th quarter, under GOL that turns into a 64-12 type game real quick

I very much agree. This was not an Oregon offense. Also, GOL would have had Taafe call plays to throw downfield more.

In addtion, GOL would never have given up 700 yards rushing in 2 games with this defense if he was engaged. That was horrible.

You can't really compare yesterday to 64-12. That Bulls team had a ferocious D-line and our QBs were worse than Milton. Also the crowd and atmosphere at Bulls games in 2007 gave them huge home field advantages that year.

agree to disagree. The mental state and positivity from Frost and assistants like Held made a huge difference that had the team over perform at times. Mistakes were made but they didn't play with an anxiety & fear of the mistake that led to 0-12

The defense carried the team to 6 wins this year. The defense alone had out scored opponents 30-29 in the 3 games prior to USF and if UCF doesn't give up 24 points of 2 picks, a fumble, and a turnover on downs (21 of which are directly related to the offense) then we probably win yesterday as well.

Yes there were many shoulda, coulda, wouldas from this season. However, anyone who was expecting a perfect, or near perfect, season this year is grossly delusional and has hopefully sought treatment by now.

Overall, we achieved an excellent return to respectability this season. The issues we still face are readily fixable in the upcoming year, especially with the current coaches, players and recruits. We have an exciting football future ahead of us.

I don't hate Frost. I just really dislike his offense and play calling. As a recruiter and motivator he's great. I think getting new uniforms and the youthful energy has done a lot for this team.

GOL had been checked out the last few seasons and was ready to go. I didn't want him to continue being the coach, but it is hard to argue that once he didn't know how to coach during the game or how to build a gameplan. That is something I hope Frost learns in time.

4 wins max. We could have beaten SC
State and FIU without a defense.

However, they did checkout the last 2
games 700 yards rushing allowwed in 2 games has been nearly unheard of in recent UCF history. Probably 7-8 yards a rush as well.

Let's give credit where credit is due and not give credit when it's not deserved. The last 2 games were not good.

Yeah my point was that the defense is what got us to 6 wins vs maybe 2 or 3. Not that they single handily won all 6 games.

The only real gripe I have with Frost was his stuborness to not go back to Holman when Milton was clearly struggling to move the ball consistently the past 3 or 4 games. When Holman did come in for a few series he successfully scored touchdowns. We might have been able to win 1 or 2 more games......

We saw how Holman couldn't evade a rush, which was one of his problems since the beginning. Couldn't even throw the ball away, something Milton learned pretty quickly, thus cutting his sacks from 7 to 1 per game.

No joke, from here on out, UCF should expect to go bowling every year. I'd like to see a nice 15 year streak start this season. There's no reason why that shouldn't be expected by each and everyone of us.
I liked how the announcing crew emphasized the real (and only?) benefit of a bowl: 15 extra practices to train and develop your future 1st and 2nd string players (plus an extra game of experience). That's one big reason the same teams stay ranked every year.

But 30 of the bowls lose big money each year ($1.5 to 3 million). That's why a nearby bowls saves our low-budget program a lot, while it also lets lots more fans attend.

Frost is looking at the future and big picture. Many fans are not. There's no evidence that Holman would have won any of those games. Actually, we might have lost to UConn.

What would have happened if Holman came in?

1) Milton's growth and experience gets stunted. Lack of valuable PT.

2) Milton feels that he has to look over his shoulder and loses confidence

AAC shares bowl revenue/expenses with its members, just like most conferences...and bowls today are TV paid TV shows for ESPN as advertisers like that specific audience during the holidays...so it really doesn't matter much if bowls sell a lot of tickets or not.

Obviously, with 3 and potentially 4 AAC Bowl Games in FLA...odds are usf and UCF would be able to bus to/from those locations....and most years they would never go to other AAC bowl games in Annapolis or Ft Worth, TX.

Team was on life support when Frost got here. He's done a lot more here in his first year than 6-6. He's changed the culture. Now the foundation is laid, he can build a strong first full recruiting cycle class and then see where we shape up next year. Even then, however, you have to see all HIS recruits on the field to get a true gauge, which might not happen until year three.

Not so with minor bowls. Remember that 95% of all bowl payouts go to the tiny fraction of top bowls!
And not filling their allotment (which is impossible for most schools to meet) forces the athletic dept. to buy up the remainder of the guaranteed number. The pitiful payout for the AAC bowls is also swamped by the costs of travel and "rewarding" every possible member of their infinite entourage. That's why an in-state non-Orlando venue will drain our coffers (as will bowl deficits for 50+ other schools).

This is one of two directions Frost could have chosen. Frost chose to keep Milton in and to keep giving Milton the experience "possibly at the expense of win with Holman".
