What's holding you back from declaring yourself a Libertarian?

What issue(s) is holding you back from declaring yourself a Libertarian?

Loony toon candidates. I'd rather vote for a sane person that has the most opinions that I agree with than loony toons that I agree mostly with. Jeb or Kasich are a good step in the right direction, it's not going to happen over night. You can't nominate a Paul or Trump. They have zero chance at beating the Everything Will Be Free party.

So ignorance? Bill Barr and Gary Johnson are more normal and sane than any candidate in the last 9 years.

But I guarantee, you've never heard them speak.

Bob Barr FFS (saw him speak @ UCF in 08) he went back to being a Republican I think - which is OK Rand, Amash, Massie there's enough Libtertarian leaning Republicans

Oh damn. I saw Barr @ UCF in 08 also. He reminds of a Ron Paul sort. Amash is cool but I don't consider him a Libertarian. Rand is certainly not.

Rand is a flaming libertarian by republican-democrat party POTUS candidate standards

You know what I hate is when people say, I'm a libertarian except for this, this and this. Here is why. Libertarian principles and stances are logically consistent and are part of a overall worldview. Denying one principle is dismissing the world view. Don't get me wrong. It's fine to say something is not practical but I agree with it on principle. But to flat out say something the opposite of a stance is logically inconsistent and is cherry picking for votes.

That cherry picking for votes is how the platforms of the republicans and democrats have been shaped.

R u accusing Rand of dismissing the Libertarian world view & cherry picking for votes? He absolutely does not. The longer Rand stays in the race the better at best he pulls of the miracle & President Paul happens at worst spark something in future generations that won’t be easy to control like the TV ones before it. Rand can win Iowa just like R-Money lost despite outspending Saint Torum.

The establishment knows Rand & libertarian ideas in general (with a nice thanks to pops parading them out there) are a huge threat to their bullshit so much so they concoct stories of how Rand’s campaign is on the ropes yet they don’t see shit about cuckservatives like Christie, Huckabee & other crap candidates.

Sidenote read a nice piece on Webb. Fought commies in Nam now he fights commies on stage.

To your original question, I'm in Georgia so I know whoever runs since 1990s or so, the Republican wins the state. So, I get to vote for Barr or whoever the Libertarians nominate. No democrat will ever win a state wide election in Georgia any more.

Every person I've met that declared themselves a libertarian has turned out to be an uber douchebag. I don't hang with douchebags. Except chemmie, sometimes.

All i hear is libertarians you meet are douchebags and loony. Fair enough. Give some examples. Would you consider constitution party the same?

Lol Im not talking about anyone personally. Just people you've come across.
Oh, in that case pretty much all of them. This is how conversations have gone pretty much 100% of the time:

Libertarian: I have this specific opinion about something.
Me: I disagree somewhat.
Libertarian: THAT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE A FUKCING RACIST BIGOT PIECE OF SHIT THAT LIKES EATING MEAT AND DOESN'T CROSSFIT, MOTHERFUKCER!!!! YOU'RE WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY!!!
Me: (walks away laughing and shaking head).

On the 100, I think someone is Libertarian minded if they agree that so long as someone isn't directly and negative effecting someone else, the govt shouldn't be involved. Now, with that I know many "libertarians" who will challenge someone until they "find" a logical inconsistency to that fundamental belief like as in zoning laws or marriage laws. I'm guilty of that.

Look, no one is going to agree 99% of time and be Right by agreeing with me. Libertarians are hard-liners. I do think that is a function of us being the so-called minority and being defensive.

Just my 2 cents.

Is this even in English?

That's a liberal IMHO.

Libertarians for the most part agree with mainstream conservative views but they have a need to be cool and stand out so they insist on wasting their vote.

Lot of confusion here there's big L Libertarians & little l libertarians. You're big L Libertarians are typically your kooks. You're Ron Paul diehards Adrian Wyllie voters (except for me obviously not a kook at all)

I'm probably somewhere in between. Some big L Libertarians like to push everything in to absurdity, but at least they have a principle (this tactic isn't that different than the DemocratRepublican fanbois), but when a businessman exploiting idiots like Glenn Beck calls himself a libertarian I cringe.

I have many Libertarian views.. The few i think just do not work are the taxes being voluntary, I mean giving our of our heart, c'mon we all know we like to give, but not many even like to give parsonage, or much unless we have so much that we can give..
Also I am for leaving other countries alone, and against most war, except for a last measure of necessity, but being isolationist has not worked well in the past..
I am socially liberal, and economically conservative... I think the max tax in the USA should be 30-33% for those making over $500k..
Also I think no more tax refunds, just make those under $25K have a 2% tax rate.. etc.. etc.. Getting rid of Tax fraud and saving us billions..

Climate Change is real.. Right now anyone that says Climate change is not real, is like someone who says GOL should coach for the next 10 years at UCF.. Good luck with your argument, your a MORON!
