FINAL OBAMA TRAVEL TAB: $100 Million

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/final-obama-travel-tab-100-million/article/2623399

The final tab for former President Obama's eight years of family travel to ski resorts, beaches and European cities has finally come in and the bill is $99,714,527.82.

Judicial Watch, the taxpayer watchdog group that has shifted its attention to President Trump's travel costs, said it just received some of the last responses to Obama-era Freedom of Information Act requests for trip costs from the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Secret Service.

They show:

— The March 2014 trip to Key Largo during Spring Break – where the first family stayed at the exclusive Ocean Reef Club – cost the Secret Service $247,827.50; $182,120.33 for hotels and $65,707.17 in travel expenses. The total cost of that trip with previously released $885,683 in flight costs from the Air Force is $1,133,510.50.

— Michelle Obama's February 2015 Aspen vacation cost the Secret Service a total of $64,807.41; $47,109.28 for hotels, $3,559.43 in rental cars and $14,138.70 in other travel expenses. The total cost of the trip with $57,068.80 in flight costs from previously released Air Force records is $121,876.21.

— Judicial Watch released documents from the Air Force concerning the 2016-2017 Obama family Christmas trip to Honolulu showing 17.9 hours flying at $142,380 per hour, bringing the total flight cost to $2,548,602.

The price does not include all expenses and many of the unknowns are expensive, including those for communications, security and the prepositioning of jets, limos and even ships for security when the Obama's vacationed in Hawaii and Martha's Vineyard, Mass.

"For eight long years, the Obamas spent our tax dollars for a lavish jet-setting lifestyle," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "Many in the media would only focus on President Trump's travel, but Barack Obama continues to cost taxpayers with his luxury travel and we aim to get the facts."

Trump is also coming under for his weekend trips to his golf resorts in Florida and New Jersey. Some critics believe his costs will top Obama's.

For example, On May 4, Judicial Watch released Air Force One pricing records showing that just two trips to Mar-a-Lago cost $1,281,4
I don't think anybody has a problem with vacations on: March 2014, February 2015, and Christmas 2016-2017.
8 trips to Boca in 3 months is excessive

Yes, it was definitely his responsibility to book the rooms
He has been in charge for almost 6 months and hasn't found time to nominate people to staff the state department. I bet he'll name somebody to be the Director of the Office of Foreign Missions quickly when he gets back.
He is too busy tweeting to make sure his team is complete and the few he has appointed are too stupid to do the job.

There are 130 nominees the Dems are holding up confirmation on in the Senate.

FAKE NEWS. The filibuster is gone. The GOP holds all the committees and the majority. There are still more than 380 positions that have yet to be nominated. The average confirmation duration is only 8 days longer than Obama's through this point in his Presidency.

honest question, do we need all those positions? im in favor of smaller government, so in my mind im ok with less positions being filled.

How is it fake news? There are 130 nominees that haven't been confirmed. The filibuster doesn't apply to committees. Dems are doing the same thing in committees that they were for the cabinet appointments. I'm willing to bet a lot of those seats won't be filled at all to cut back on government waste.

It's fake that the Dems are holding up nominations/confirmations. The GOP could usher through all the confirmations they want, as they hold majority in all the committees and the Senate. Even those nominations the Dems have supported take time. And yes, there have been nominations, the Dems have supported. That's the other fake part to suggest the Dems have been categorically dismissing all nominations.

Committees are evenly split and bipartisan. The GOP can't just push people through without Dems approving.

Actually, they can. The overall makeup is 52-48, they're all going to be pretty close. But every chair is GOP and every committee is at least one more GOP than Dem. And every committee vote is simple majority.

You can't get to a vote with the Dems letting the clock run until 0:00 instead of agreeing to cut it short and move on. You can't get to a vote if the Dems aren't showing up to the committees. You can't get to a vote if the Dems faux rage about needing more paperwork/time. They've used these tactics with most nominees. They can't stop a nominee but they can dramatically slow down the process which is why Trump has the fewest confirmed appointments.

I guess nominating people for 20% of the required positions is also the Dems fault.
BTW, 43 days to confirm isn't that far from 35 days for Obama. I think the difference is that Obama had nominated 319 people at the time of the article vs 193 for Trump and probably a majority of Trumps nominations happened recently

Trump also has the fewest nominees, and is taking longer to formally submit nominees after naming them. That's a larger reason why the appointments haven't been filled. GOP pulled much of the same stuff during Obama's admin, too. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/06/06/trump-administration-nominees-paperwork-239124

Most of the 384 non-nominated positions are considered pretty key. There's a total of over 1,200 positions in all, but the key 564 are what's really being tracked. Many of these open positions carry the title of Chief Counsel, CFO, Ambassador, Deputy Secretary, Director, or head up key programs under current law. I get wanting to reduce bureaucracy, but the legal actions required by current law basically stall a lot of the current processes if some of these positions aren't filled. At some point, the lack of these key staff will affect commerce.

I love it. The fewer government employees, the better.

At some point, the lack of these key staff will affect commerce.

No it won't. The government should not be involved in commerce.
