So Patterson got fired because he pissed off donors. Yet O'Leary has struggled and I imagine that he's not had the time to coddle up to the big donors as Athletic Director. This isn't to say to fire O'Leary, but rather to wonder how the wealthy alumni feel about him anointing Key who has struggled. Why don't we hear from them how they feel about Key and if they want GOL to pick a side either be AD full term or be head coach full term.

Now I know it's assumed and I'm not saying it's not true, but I've never once read anywhere or heard George O'Leary or Hitt appoint Key as the head coach in waiting.

Because our wealthy alumni are Gator's fans. The superfan UCF Alumni are in their late 30's/early 40's. UCF graduates younger than that when to school at a time when UCF football either didn't exist or was an afterthought because we were playing in lower divisions, so they were fans of other major programs in the state.

I know many people at my job who graduated UCF, and in high positions at my company so are making some real $$$. However, they spend their money on UF donations because UCF didn't have anything for them to be a fan of. It will be at least 20 more years until UCF starts having tons of later career wealthy people willing to be donors. That is precisely why we need to win them as fans now...and keeping GOL around is not helping.

It takes many many more years of existence for a school like UCF to garner a fair number of really wealthy alumni. You are talking about generations of UCF fans from the same family becoming tradition. Once in a while a school can get lucky like Oregon with their Nike guy or Memphis with the FedEx guy. But UT and the state of Texas in general has a bunch of old oil money. these guys have run the show for generations. I don't doubt that they are partially responsible for the recent decline of UT football.

Think about where Texas was when they fired Mack Brown and why and when Tennessee fired Phil Fulmer and why. They were having great seasons but not winning national championships for a couple of years. So they abandoned the coaches that got them where they were and went for the "new coach" thing. Now they are going to fire ADs. Bet they would be willing to have a few decent seasons again.

I can't get past the poorly written thread title.
