Saudi Arabia announced on 31 January that one of its frigates had survived a suicide boat attack, while Yemen's rebels claimed they used a missile against the naval vessel.

The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Saudi-led coalition, which is trying to reinstall Yemen's ousted government, had released a statement saying that a Saudi frigate had been attacked by three suicide boats operated by the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group west of the Yemeni port of Al-Hudaydah.

Ansar Allah, which is supported by Iran and allied with Yemeni military units loyal to former president Abdullah Ali Saleh, is not known to have previously used suicide bombing tactics.

They should pray they never have to actually fight the Iranians. They're bastards but the Iranians have a huge, well trained, well motivated military.

I had the opportunity to interact with some Saudi officers who were participating in what is considered relatively elite training and my impression is that you are not entirely wrong.

Some guys were talking about this at work saying something about these attackers actually thought it was a US ship.

They either thought it was an American ship or it was practice for one. Either way, after the USS Cole, no unauthorized vessel is getting anywhere near a USN ship, especially in the ME.
