Maybe I'm WAY off base, but I look at 'The Most Toxic Fanbases' list and scratch my head.
Iowa #1??? Yikes, where'd the heck did THAT come from?

I've always viewed Hawkeye fans as your classic, fair weather fans. A decent fanbase when they're winning and 'out the door' when they're not. I'm guessing their ranking has to do with the venom surrounding Kirk's son when he was the OC. But that stuff goes on with every fanbase. How did we feel about Chinander as our DC back in the day?

When I hear the word, TOXIC, I think of pure evil. I think nasty. I think hateful. I think taunting. I think of destructive type of fan behavior. In the NFL, people always point to Eagles fans. In CFB, that's the Miami Hurricanes---and their fans weren't even on the Barstool Sports list.

I used to travel to all away games (including bowls) back in the day and, by far, the worst fans were at West Virginia…a bunch of racist, insecure betas. In second place were UF fans.

Best fans were Nebraska, Penn State and Syracuse.

From my personal experience, The Worst fans cheer for Colorado and Miami.

Knight fans are (fortunately) not heading to Boulder this year, but when you do, look out. One year, the refs stopped the game to remove an entire section of students before resuming. (I'm not kidding.) Nebraska fans who attended the Orange Bowl games against the Canes back in the 90s can tell you horror stories about their treatment, especially the ones who foolishly parked their vehicles (sporting Nebraska license plates) near the old stadium.

Nebraska's 2014 game against the Canes broke a decades-long tradition of Husker fans (win or lose) applauding the visiting team as the left the field. Instead, Miami's players were treated to a loud chorus of boos. (If you wonder why, watch the fourth quarter of that game on YouTube. It's lucky a damn riot didn't break out on the field.)

Against my better judgement I went to Miami the following season for their rematch. We got all kinds of insults and smack talk on our way into the stadium. It was so bad before the game that I couldn't imagine how horrible it would be afterwards. We got the crap beat out of us early but staged a dramatic 23-point fourth quarter comeback to send the game into OT. But after holding the Canes to a FG, the Huskers were driving for a game-winning TD when our QB threw a pick in the endzone to lose by three.

Our gang feared the worst leaving the stadium but were shocked to see how great we were treated after the game. All the Canes fans we met told us we deserved to win. Why? Canes fans HATED Al Golden with a passion and said if we had pulled off the comeback, they would've finally been able to get rid of his worthless ass. (As I recall, they did fire him later on that same season.)

da u isn't relevant enough to merit consideration.

Worst fans are THuga! Not even close.

Tennessee fans are awful when Tennessee is good. Rarely in my lifetime has Tennessee been "good."

I've heard there's a lot of competition for 'Most Toxic Fans,' especially inside the SEC. I was shocked to see Florida State rated so high while while fans of the state's SEC school, the Florida Gators didn't even make the list. How crazy is that? They should be right up there with Auburn, right? ;)

FWIW, the Miami and Florida fanbases should both be in the top #5.

My list of most toxic has Florida, Miami, the Ohio State, FSU, Texas, several other SEC schools could fit the bill here too. I don’t believe the Big12 has any toxic fanbases that rival the SEC. Colorado is annoying but a lot of that noise comes from their coach. The fans that traveled to Orlando weren’t toxic. I think we need to be around more than 2 years to see any of the toxicity.

I think Texas is the most toxic fanbase followed up by tOSU, Miami, FSU, Florida, Bama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Michigan, and Southern California. If UCF can become a dominant power in the Big12, I can see our fanbase joining the other Florida teams as toxic. I think it’s something in our water.

USC? People in LA don’t care about college sports. Lane Kiffin I think said he would walk around LA and no one cared. He walks around in Mississippi and he gets mauled by people.
