Why can't some fans understand that this team

The defense has exceeded expectations. No other unit, including coaches, has done any thing worth bragging about.

I'm torn on this. Certainly this team has exceeded my preseason expectations. It just seems like we're in a lot of trouble going forward if the best we can do is MM the next 3 years. SF should be able to recruit better this year and next.

Don't we currently have like 3 QB commits?

The team needs to sustain drives. We had way too many 4 and outs. This has been a consistent probelem on offense. At least get a few first downs before punting the ball so the defense has a chance to rest. If our defense is not as good as we are, we win maybe 1 game this season? Next year has a bleak outlook at this point.

Series 1: 3 Plays 6 Yards - Punt
Series 2: 4 Plays 4 Yards - Punt
Series 3: 3 Plays 4 Yards - Punt
Series 4: 6 Plays 16 Yards - Fumble
Series 5: 4 Plays 1 Yard - Turnover on downs
Series 6: 3 Plays -3 Yards - Punt
Series 7: 12 Plays 50 Yards - Field Goal
Series 8: 7 Plays 34 Yards - Field Goal

Half

Series 9: 5 Plays 12 Yards - Punt
Series 10: 3 Plays 9 Yards - Punt
Series 11: 8 Plays 34 Yards - Punt
Series 12: 13 Plays 70 Yards - Touchdown
Series 13: 3 Plays 1 Yard - Punt
Series 14: 10 Plays 76 Yards - Turnover on downs

It doesn't appear that Milton will be our future QB unless some major changes are made with his footwork, accuracy and decision making. That being said, Frost will HAVE to make a change eventually if things don't improve or HIS coaching career will be taking a major hit

I see Milton moving to slot receiver next year. Or, backup qb. We do have some QB recruits coming in that may be better. Also, as a side note, Justin Homan should have got some playing time. The offense was super stagnate. Why not mix it up some and throw the defense off, plus get Holman some loyalty playing time. Oh well....At least the weather is nice and cool out today to cool us off! Go Knights, Beat Duh*Bulls...

I was hoping the offense would have improved during the year. Has Milton improved at all?

I don't have any problem with people ripping the staff. They are supposed to know what they are doing, and have repeatedly made head-scratching decisions. Maybe s gamble every now and then can be overlooked but we have already lost games because they aren't doing the right things. Temple is the prime example. He burns clock on drives early in the 4th there is no time left for them at the end of the game. Even playing Cincy we were snapping off plays in the 4th quarter with 25 seconds left on the clock. It's just blatantly dumb coaching when you have the lead. It's way different than a freshman QB not seeing an open WR, etc... I think most people know that.

I would say no but that may not all be on him. After the first couple of games people had film on him and teams adjusted or planned accordingly. They basically crowded the line because there was little to no threat beyond 10-15 yds down the field.

If I was a WR or TE on this team, I would be so damn frustrated. Not only are we not getting the production that we should, but there aren't any throws downfield.

Honestly, I'm tired of watching the receivers getting exposed in the ribcage by constantly jumping and extending. I could imagine how they feel.

So was Houston against Louisville.

You have to try to install you offense. There will be bumps especially when your offense is so different than the previous.

GOL did the same thing. He went 0-11. If he had just opened it up a bit and flung it around we would've won a few games. But he didn't. He ran up the middle. To prove a point.

Bc Frost is going w his guys, the playing time will hopefully pay off for Milton and the other freshman in the future.

I don't care how bad Milton plays, I'm not giving up on a true freshman that doesn't have 1 Spring Practice under his belt. Frost was very firm in the post game that he thinks Milton will have a great career

Has exceeded all expectations and played above its abilities. This includes Milton. You should be happy. Instead so many are so impatient that they feel the need to rag on the players and coach and bitch about what might have been instead of looking forward to the future.

Every unit has exceed my expectations except Milton. If his throwing mechanics aren't fixed, there is no way he plays QB in college at any level.

I'm kind of amazed he had no INTs, with the number of times he ran around and lofted 500 balls (remember that game growing up?) into areas 15 yards downfield.

I think the problem with his accuracy is his mechanics. I am no QB guru, but IMO that is why his passes sail on him so much. His accuracy is what is killing the passing game. That being said, you don't start missing with his mechanics during the season. Hopefully, over the off season they will work on his mechanics and he will deliver a much better pass. For the most part, I thought the OL played decent in pass pro, not great, but good enough. The bottom line for the offense, or really any offense, you are only going to be as good as your OL allows you to be. Right now they are not very efficient in what we are trying to accomplish. But they haven't been that good over the last 3 years. GOL may have done well in recruiting some excellent defensive players, but he and his staff completely whiffed on OL over the last 3 recruiting cycles. But going back to the last night's game with Tulsa. Again, I'm no guru, but it seemed to me that when we fell behind and the offense had to throw the ball on every down, Milton actually looked better and a little more comfortable. The Offense's best drives came when we were chucking the ball a lot. I know he still put too much air under his passes but the offense was moving, including the last drive that came up a bit short. If we could move the ball like that more often, we would be able to rest the defense and put up more points throughout the course of the game.

As far as a defensive let down next season, Chinander seems to be a really good coordinator. There are a couple of guys playing out of position right now and as a unit they have played really well this year. Another year of developing in the weight room and having the opportunity to grow with the new system and some of the younger players are really going to step up next year. We've been solid on that side of the ball virtually every year for the better part of a decade (last year being the exception). I don't see a reason to hit the panic button on next year just yet; at least not on that side of the ball.

Did anyone really think Milton would have great mechanics and accuracy coming into this season? I think most everyone expected him to redshirt. In the beginning of the season you were calling for Holman's head and then when Milton came in you were heralding in the new messiah. Now when you realize he was actually just a true freshman and playing beyond the abilities of a new freshman you rag on him and call him midget. Great players work hard and make huge adjustments in the off season. He should be given that opportunity before you write him off as a loss

I agree 98%. I would like to see him make some improvement in accuracy from week to week. I hoped as the season went along the game would slow down for him and he would feel more comfortable. IMO he is still rushing some of his throws and that is leading to passes sailing on him. I'm not on the dump Milton bus. I would like to see what he can do with a year of development, and a (hopefully) improved OL that can give him some support in the running game.

Couple of questions regarding other issues. Does Killings not catch punts all that well? Why not have him out there? Also, if Killings and Hamilton can catch, why not try to get them matched up with a LB or a safety and send them up the seam? Is it because we can't protect the QB long enough to get much in the vertical passing game? I'm not putting that on Milton, but wondering why that hasn't been part of the game plan.

You're confusing Killins with Killings. Killings plays defense.

trash Milton all you want but it is amazing how much patience this board had with Holman with every excuse in the book for him but some of those same excuses(weak oline, no run game) are ignored when trashing a true freshman that doesn't even have a full season under his belt

Agreed. Also, it seems Frost is tied to running the exact same type play calling series that worked at Oregon. At Oregon they ran as an overwhelming percentage of their attack. Here, our run game is stagnant due to the lack of any run lanes being created by the line. We have killed so many drives by running smallish backs into waiting 290 lb. D linemen fo 1 yard or even a loss of 2. This is killing drives for 2 reasons: we aren't that good at it and also we are very predictable because we do it so often.

Our passing game is, while not great, gaining first downs for us at a much better rate, when we are willing to use it on downs that are not obvious passing situations. When it is obvious we are going to pass then the pressure on the passer is greater and MM is not well prepared for that yet. Of course, that is another coaching issue, because we should be using hot routes to punish a defense by attacking the area of the defense where the blitz is coming from.

In essence, with the excellent receiving corps that we have, we can pass our way downfield for first downs if we adjust our addiction to run plays (and swing passes) that are not working.

I am extremely surprised by the turnaround. I thought we would be better than last year due to the number of injuries and young players. I will admit I've been mad by some of the rookie coaching mistakes (temple game, some clock management, etc.) However, I love the fire Frost has. He has shown some big cojones with some of his play calling and I like that. I think many of our issues related to GOL inability to recruit and/or develop QB's. Milton shouldn't have needed to start this year but because we had hot garbage at QB left over from the previous staff he did. I'm hoping and rooting that Milton takes a step forward next year because if we have to start a true freshman again we could be in big trouble.

Agree KL1. small backs, small terrible O-line, zero run game. (It's so bad it's hard to watch) :-(

Both Milton and the offense have regressed. Seems like the running game we had at the beginning of the year is now non existent. The offensive line is just not cutting it and in general the inexperienced RBs seem to do too much dancing around instead of running north and south. Seems like Dontravious Wilson is not getting as many carries and he was the consistent work horse early on. The total lack of a consistent running game has just highlighted Milton's inexperience and bad fundamentals. If Frost is successful in recruiting his type of players, not a forgone conclusion Milton is his QB going forward. Hopefully we will see some serious competition on offensive side of the ball next year. Go Knights!

Yes, when opponents know we're gonna pass every down, they can just drop into coverage or chase our QB out of the pocket because we have no offensive line. Tulsa must have also noticed that recent teams abandoned he run too early despite no defensive line. The way to beat us run on first and second downs to wear us down. I said before the season there is no line. Then we lost our only 2 dependable linemen.

You definitely saw that Tulsa was daring us to pass and pass deep. They stacked the box pretty much anytime they were on defense.

I have noticed Milton has started a habit of holding onto the ball even though he seems to know where he wants to go. Problem is the defender is seeing that and the space the WRs have created is all but gone by the time MM gets them the ball. If I was a TE or WR I'd be frustrated as hell.

I actually hope we start a true frost next year. It means he's better than Milton. Same I was glad Milton became starter. If in doubt go with the younger player.
