Why Dillon Gabriel left UCF.

In a backhanded way he is suggesting he was too good for UCF. He wanted to play at the next level and all . I guess being on highly competitive G5 team wasn't good enough but playing on 6-7 Oklahoma was better. He did throw some sun UCF's way . I also read between the lines here . I suspect he didn't like Gus and stuff .

I don't get the hate for him because he clearly wasn't a fit for Gus' style of play. Nick Marshall is his ideal QB ... Nick Marshall got a shot in the NFL at cornerback. that's all you need to know about the QB position under Malzahn. hopefully Hinshaw changes that and we get back to UCF style QBs.

Boy, did you guys miss the boat. He left because Malzahn didn't want a real QB, he wanted a running back instead. That's what he got. Had Gabriel stayed and gotten to play, UCF would have won the conference last year, gone to a decent bowl game and were ranked at seasons end.
Don’t be too sure, he was horrible in big games or anytime a 3-3-5 defense took the field. Just coincidence that OU had their worst season this CENTURY with Mr Socko at the helm? Probably not.

In fairness, the Oklahoma team overall was terrible last year. Without DG they probably lose 10 games. He missed a game with injury and they lost 49-0.

He’s a talent to be sure, but unfortunately he wants to be in an air raid system that doesn’t translate or prepare you for the NFL (or any next level). He also seems to be a diva, a total me guy despite how he tries to portray himself. I’ve never bought the whole “he didn’t fit Gus’ system” because he was having a pretty stellar statistical year before he got hurt, he was becoming a better overall qb in Gus’ system and Gus showed he can tailor an offense around his strengths, although yeah, he prefers a mobile qb.

That style offense is always going to struggle and lose against good teams, see HeupeLLL, we’ve all witnessed it. You have to execute flawlessly to win, b/c your defense is going to be stressed and give up a ton of points and yards. Good defenses shut that shit down, and then there are no adjustments to make b/c it’s a gimmick.

DG is a great passer no doubt. I was mad he left, but whatever, good for his growth (in his wallet). Will be interesting to see how everyone does this year. UCF @Sooners is gonna be a fun game. Both teams have bye weeks leading up to it.

If you guys missed the great game between FSU and Oklahoma in last season's Orlando Cheez it Bowl here are the highlights. It was a fun game to watch I remember.

Isn’t that what TY and Mahomes ran?

You're probably correct

You know the NIL $$ was big at OK when they took him.

Interesting that he left for bigger pastures and yet here we are.... In the same conference, playing the same teams for the same price. Bet you he didn't see that coming!

The difference is, if he had stayed at UCF, the hype around this kid would be crazy high. Leading a bad 7-5 Oklahoma team last year did him zero favors.

Have to wonder if he always competed with KZ in the past and thought he was better but now he realized that he wouldn't overcome the legacy of KZ at UCF.

He left bc of the coaching change. All our transfers out were Huep recruits, Matt, Davonte, Titus, Mikey, Kaedin, Browder, etc.

Titus committed after Huepel left, wasn’t a Huepel recruit. But he’s gone nonetheless.

No idea who TY, Mahomes is Mahomes.

Btw, I wouldn’t even compare Cliff Kingsbury/Mike Leach Air Raid to whatever it is Huepel runs.
TT. Texas Tech. A typo sorry. I’d compare Oklahoma and Texas Tech offenses. Quite a few QBs came out of those systems. Only a couple from a Gus style.

What's funny is that Gus made him run more and he gets hurt. Then he transfers to OU where he also is expected to run more. Coaches aren't suppose to kiss your aZZ. I get the transfer portal popularity in year 5 for a player which is common for players including most in your list.

True....There was a growing anti-coaching staff atmosphere for whatever reason. It seemed like everyone was beginning to focus on themselves. Remember when Gus was saying that Flash was healthy to play but was choosing not too.

Flash really made a dud splash at next spot. He looked good in his last spring game here but was listening to the wrong people around him and transferred into oblivion.

Mikey Keene is Fresno's starting QB, other than than him, couldn't care less about anyone else. And I guess Castellanos went from being UCF backup to Boston College backup.
