I don't know if anybody else tuned into college sports nation this fine morning, but they were discussing the Big 12 and how Texas drove this non-expansion train. I listened in and one caller mentioned why the Big Ten was loaded is that it had big population centers. The caller said Cincy is in the shadow of the Big ten . Then Tailor Zarzar said to the effect adding UCF in Orlando would be a huge market addition to the Big 12. He went on to say the American Conference has a lot more potential viewers based on its footprint and he added that it is really a Power 6 Conference.

Anyone else catch this? I think a number of folks are onto something here. Maybe the American has a brighter potential as time goes on?

They are right, our areas are huge, but no one cares about the local team.

A shame no one cares about Memphis, supposedly Houston doesn't care about Houston (was watching ESPNU before the Big almost 12 fiasco and they sad the same), Cincy, Uconn, Temple all have been talked about as having few fans, usf homecoming was packed with 25 fans, Ecu has a better base than ours yet is in a small area, UCF should have more of a fan base but Florida is not filled with rabid football fans, they only watch ranked winners, UCF has double the student fans in attendance than Tulsa has entire student body.

Hopefully, winning changes that (for everybody except usf it seems). Last year and this, it seems the AAC has at least 3 teams ranked or close. It's just going to take a long time.
