We just returned from two weeks in England and Scotland celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. I was going to post on the trip, but then thought it would be a fun thread to see what everyone is up to this summer.

We spent about a week in Scotland. We took my FIL ashes back to his hometown of Glasgow and spread them at all of his favorite childhood places: Victoria Park, Loch Lomond, Dunoon, and the Lamont Clan Massacre Memorial (his clan). We toured the Highlands, and spent a couple of days in Edinburgh. We loved Scotland, the food, and the people.

We also spent about a week in England. BIL lives about 90 minutes northeast of London. Is is retired Air Force and married and English lady. We stayed with th a few days and visited Cambridge. Spent three days in London and saw all of the famous attractions. We walked 14 miles one of the days, despite also using a water taxi and the tube numerous times. Glad that we did the London thing, but we honestly had more fun exploring the smaller towns.

Things we liked about both England and Scotland:

People were very kind and lots of fun
“Pints” are 20 ounces
Dogs were welcome everywhere
Lots of different, interesting, and good food
Seeing history that dates 1,000 plus years

Things we missed:

Fountain sodas with plastic straws and ice
Fresh vegetables (very hard to find at restaurants)
Real whisky pours (regulated to 25 ml per pour)

Below are a few pics:

Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness
Edinburgh Castle
Beacon Hill over looking Highclere Castle (wife is a Downton Abbey fan)
Buckingham Palace

And lastly the look our dog gave us when we returned (he stayed with our daughter)😂
