The good-
Tre'Quan Smith- looks the part, made a lot of plays out there today. Good hands as well
Jordan Akins- also looks the part, is the go to guy right now. If he can improve his hands he's not a bad target.
Justin Holman- looked sharp, good zip on his throws. Looks way more comfortable than before.
Jamiyus Pittman- solid as usual, only a sophomore
Thomas Niles- good effort today, was in the backfield a ton on drills.

The average:
Taylor Oldham- good hands, but not real excited about him
Domenic Spencer- really undersized, unless he's another TP (which he's not), he will struggle.
Drico Johnson- experienced safety, doesn't stand out but seems like a suitable replacement
Offensive Line in general- not many holes created, undersized especially in the interior
Nick Patti- the definition of a game manager. Makes good decisions, but has no arm.

Disappointing
Kyle Gibson- skinny, needs more time in the weight room. Not ready to be a starter at the D1 level although I wouldn't be surprised if he did start.
Shaquill Griffin- looks the part, is in great shape. However, he looks lost at times and was torched many times last year.
Micah Reed- waiting for a breakout, not seeing it. Will Stanback, Dontravious Wilson, and CJ Jones are all outplaying him.

Busts:
Tyler Harris- I've seen him in the spring game and a few practices. Unfortunately, I don't see him panning out. He really struggled today, even with basic slants and outs. His arm isn't as good as advertised. His delivery takes forever. He floats way too many passes and was picked off a ton. The coaches were frustrated with him for sure today.

Shows Promise:
Chris Williams- lengthy, good closing speed and looks comfortable out there. He is vocal and looks to really want 1st team defense.
CJ Jones- hits the hole quickly and has sparked the sideline on numerous occasions with solid runs
Taj McGowan- for his first exposure to D1 football he doesn't look scared to hit the hole. Also showcases good hands for a RB.
AJ Wooten- good size, flashes starter potential once in a while.

No problem. Holman showcased some nice touch on a few throws. His ceiling is very high. It all depends on his decision making when it comes time to play in games. He has definitely separated himself from the pack (then again there's not much competition behind him to be honest) this Spring. His only threat would be incoming freshman Bo Schneider, but that won't happen because Bo has no experience and needs time to adjust to college speed.

Thank you!

do you feel Stanback will be the starter?

Awesome...THX

So what about a backup QB if Holman goes down?

Seriously, I'm worried. Who else can throw? Who else has height?

We need more size at linebacker and on the O-line. 5'11 centers and middle linebackers are just too short to hold enough weight needed for those positions. Stanford and USC will pound us.

Is there no hope that some of the guys who don't look good right now will become significantly better by the time the season starts?

Although I have not been to any practices, I think it is waaaay to early to start calling people a bust. Just remember who was touted as the next QB last spring? Holman did not play well enough in practice to beat out Divino. But put in the game situation he came to life and has continued to improve. My guess is that Harris is not playing with much confidence at the moment for whatever reason. But who knows. Maybe he will not turn out to be good enough to play D1. But to call him a bust as a RS Freshman is a bit over the top.
