I'm talking fitbit, jawbone and all that crap. Which one do you guys use? I have an S5 and I'm using the Samsung Health app. Willing to spend between $50-$100.

I gave you a topic, now, discuss.

I'm interested in the same thing. My dad got a fitbit and raves about it. I'll admit I know nothing about this technology; but, ideally, I'd want one that included a couple/few gigs of storage so that I could use it as a music player. Problem is - from the research I've done - they all seem to be a little cumbersome. Granted, not as big as the phone I usually use while running; but, too big to wear to bed.

We got Jawbone at work for our Christmas gift in 2014. I used it for six weeks, and found out I walk around 14 miles a day.

If you want it, I can ship it to you for free.

Yeah, I know nothing about them. Do you have to wear them all the time or just when you don't wear your phone? How does the friggin thing even work anyways? Is it x86 Windows wireless container based?

my wife bought me the Garmin Vivo Smart. I like the alerts that carry over from my phone so I don't have to take it out of my pocket. The app is good, not great but allows you to pull in other fitness/nutrition sites if you are interested.
It allows you to set a weight goal and based on your height and current weight it targets a step count per day (goal).
You can also sync a wireless HR monitor if you want to go a step further.

I have the fitbit charge hr. It gives you a pretty accurate heart rate (hence the HR), logs sleep, steps, miles, stairs climbed, and calories burned. The app is pretty intuitive. It's a bit pricey ($150) but I like it better than the chest strap I used to wear before and you rarely notice that you have it on. Oh, it also does display the time and date, which is pretty nice.

But do you have to have these things and the phone on you for them to work or can you go for a run without the phone and when you get back the info just syncs via bluetooth or something?

My vivo is blue tooth so you can leave the phone and sync later, also has a 7-8 battery which i like

I don't know about these things, but eat good food and be active and you don't have to waste money on gadgets to tell you to get off your ass. Just my opinion.

If you are a runner/cyclist such as myself, I like the Garmin Vivoactive. GPS enabled with heart rate monitor. And it does all the other stuff such as connects automatically to your phone using Garmin Connect. It will improve with the next version, but I like it.

Yeah, but it makes it a bit easier to set up goals with tangible data.

Like, right now, I don't track food or water or sleep on the Samsung Health app. I set up a goal to be more active so the app tracks my daily routine and tells me when I've reached a minimum of 60 minutes of phisical activity, which can be as easy as walking but I actually wasn't achieving. It also counts steps, which is kind of a fun way to create a bet-against-yourself kinda game.

Basically, I'm trying to become my own Tagamochi, mainly because I can.

I was mostly kidding - of course i'd never use it.
My wife uses something, i have no idea what it is and certainly don't care.
She just uses it to track her runs (etc) - another thing i would never ever do; pound my feet against pavement.

Jets, real response other than the lazy boy dumbass responses.

My wife has been through 3 or 4 of them in the past month.

She started cheap to see if she would reference it at all and that one died about 3 days later. She upgraded to a jawbone in a bracelet (most common way you see people wearing them) and lost it within the first 48 hours because their bracelets are crap. She wrote JawBone and it is a known problem so they replaced it for her and this time she did the clip on one that she puts on her belt or shoes.

In the interim before she heard back from Jawbone, she went out and got a FitBit. Functionally, the FitBit is better constructed (i.e. it doesn't fall off) than the JawBone but the Jawbone had a far superior app. Now that she has the Jawbone in the clip on, she gave my daughter the FitBit. I will probably get the Jawbone clip on in a couple of weeks.

She really liked the sleep tracking part of the app as well.

I had a Jawbone about 4 years ago, hated it. I have a Fitbit for the last year and it's pretty good, but I don't always find it to be overly reliable with the actual steps taken, but I keep it in my pocket now for the challenge and social aspects.

I also have the Apple Watch and I love that way more than the Fitbit, but that's way out of your budget.
