Adonys (945 mins, started all 27 games, averages 35 mins played per game, 10.7 pts per game, overall shooting 43% from the field, 38.5% from 3 pt range, 81% from FT Line. In just AAC Games, 10.4 pts per game, shooting 38.2%, 33.7% from 3 pt land, 83% from FT line ), and BJ (742 mins, started all 23 games he was healthy, ave 32 mins per game, overall 12.9 pts per game, 38% from the field, 36% from downtown, 73% from FT. In just AAC Games: 35% from the field, 27.7% from downtown, 74% from FT). He missed 4 games because of injury/concussion), have both gained a ton of experience this season.

While both have struggled in some games (happens with almost every Freshmen), while Taylor played well at Tulane (6-10, 4-6 from 3 pt range, 16 pts), in the other recent 3 games Houston( 2-8 but his last one was the game deciding bucket), Memphis (2-14) and at Cinci (2-10), he has obviously has struggled in those game.

Looking back at some of the better guards/winf players in recent years at UCF and how much experienced they had as true Freshmen and beyond:

Jermaine Taylor: ave 11.7 mins per game (no starts, 338 total mins, 4.3 pts per game, 39% from the field, 30% from shorter 3 pt range, just 44% from FT line). As a soph, JT averaged 12.7 pts per game. Jr 20.8 pts, Sr 26.2 pts)

AJ Rompza: Started 26 our of 29 games, averaged 26.5 mins per game, 4.3 pts per game, 29.5% from the field, 22% from 3 pt range. Soph started all 31 games, 977 mins played, averaged 31.5 mins per game, 8.6 pts per game, 40.5% from the field, 33% from 3 pt, 56% from FT line. As a Jr: 31 games, 19 starts, ave 6.4 pts, 39% from the field, 33% from downtown, 70% from FT line)...then missed half of his Senior Season due to NCAA Suspension.

Jordan: Started 18 out of 32 games, 836 mins played, 26.1 mins per game, 8 pts per game, shot 41% from the field, 27.6% from 3 pt range, 70% from FT line. As a Soph: Started 31 out of 33 games, 1,038 mins played, ave 31.5 mins per game, shot 40.6% from the field, 33% from downtown, 77.5% from FT line. As Jr: Started 31 games (missed 2 games that season), 1,112 mins, 35.9 mins per game, 13.7 pts per game, shot 37% from the field,

Sykes: Started 1 out of his 32 games, 525 mins played, ave 16.4 mins, 4 pts per game (just 1.9 pts in conf play), shot 56% from the field (just 11-25 in conf play), had 0 three pt attempts, 47.5% from FT line (just 30% in conf play). As a Soph: Started 32 out of 33 games, 1,012 mins played, ave 30.7 mins per game, 12.3 pts per game, 54% from the field, 29% from 3 pt, 55% from FT. As a Jr: Started all 31 games, 1,079 mins played, 34.8 mins per game, 16 pts per game, 46% from the field, 32% from 3 pt range, 62% from FT line. As a Sr: Started 29 out of his 30 games (missed 1 total game), 958 mins played, 31.9 mins per game, 17.2 pts per game, 47.5% from the field, 37.5% from 3 pt range, 54% FT.

I think with their first full off-season of strength/conditioning...both of these true Freshmen will improve in a lot of areas next season (plus, with a lot more depth...they might get more rest...which would make them fresher at end of games).

While no one can correctly predict improve projections from Freshman stats...hopefully the improvements that other guards made from their Freshmen to their Soph/Jr/Sr years (minus MJ) like JT, Jordan and Sykes should bode well for Adonys and BJ.

Also the competition back in the old CUSA that those 3 former players faced was not as strong as the current AAC.

Here's a quick look at Brandon Goodwin's stats from his Freshmen and Soph Season:

Goodwin's Freshmen 2013-2014 stats:
412 mins (14.7 mins per game)
Played in 28 out of 31 games (started 9)
3.0 pts per game
39.7% from the field (only took 63 shots the entire season)
22.2% from 3 pt (4-18)
59.2% FT (29-49)
1.6 assists per game (49 total)
1.1 turnovers per game (30 total)

Goodwin's Soph 2014-2015 stats:
908 mins (33.6 mins per game)
Played/started all 27 games so far this year
10.5 pts per game
45.6% from the field (99-217)
29.6% from 3 pt (16-54)
61.1% from FT (69-113)
4.0 assists per game (109 total)
2.8 turnovers per game (76)

With a lot more mins per game...most of Goodwin's numbers improved (his turnovers went up as well).

Bottom line...if Adonys and BJ can improve their already top UCF Freshmen stats in recent years...with new talent coming in and current roster getting more experience/improving...hopefully the future will be bright in the coming seasons.
