Adonys is now going to transfer

Off season 5 am runs, that's just being passive aggressive.

If for no reason, maybe, but it says it was for disciplinary reasons. So if someone broke a rule then I don't see any problem with a 5 am run as discipline.

I'm not necessarily sold on Dawkins, but I'm willing to give him a chance and see things play out.

Then obviously you wouldn't have the commitment the new coaching staff is looking for and therefore not a good fit. Some athletes love the sport they play and will do whatever is asked of them to get better. It's all about doing the stuff other people won't.

It looks like we are losing some good players due to an unnecessary level of 'commitment.' It's not so hard to believe that these kids might want to have a well rounded college experience. Going to sleep at 9 o'clock, to get the necessary 8 hours of sleep sounds pretty lame to me today and I'm not even in college anymore.

5am boot camp runs seems like a little bit of overcompensation in sending a message during what is usually a dead part of their offseason.

Adonys must have been at Del Taco at 2 & this was a shock to his system

What does that mean?

When UCF was on their severe scholarship sanctions and probation...most top (heck, or even good players) were not beating down UCF's doors to play in Orlando.

McBride was a low rated gamble...and to an extent, he still turned out to be a pretty good bench player (ever team needs multiple players like that), as he lead UCF in pts per mins conf game played...and was neck and neck with Tacko in rebounds per mins per conf game and he still shot 60% for the season.

Did McBride turn into a world beater? Of course not...and no one expected that...heck...most thought he would barely get any PT...but he was still a solid contributor.

Could McBride, with more personal responsibility, turn into a better player with more dietary control? Sure...as could others...but if he was a 6' 10" 235 lb HS stud...he never ever would have "fallen" to UCF during their sanction period.
WTF do you think it means! You have an excuse for everything. LOW RATED GAMBLE.....WORLD BEATER.....SURE HE COULD......this is the AAC, McBride needs to be able to compete and run in this league to win. You can't take him out after 2-3 times up and down the court. He's taking up a scholarship spot. He's over weight. He's had 3 years to significantly improve. What are we going to do with McBride this year? Two runs up and down the court and we pull him out? Who's down low? Who?

Look, at this point don't judge either way. The new coach is entitled to do it his way or the highway. Players are free to choose to stay at UCF or transfer. But personally if you are transferring just because of a 5am run, knowing the new coach is testing your resolve then you are probably not cut out to stay and will probably regret your decision one day.

While that could be the case of 1 or 2...that doesn't explain all of the scholarship loses (including 2 out of the 3 recruits).

Sometimes players want to play for a specific coach/style and/or like their "position" assistant coach...all which changes when a new HC brings in their own staff.

I hope some help can be found to help out BJ, AJ and Tacko especially...as it would be a bummer if it was a lost year for all.

Losing Adonys is going to hurt. He was going to be a valuable component next year. I would describe him as a solid starter, not necessarily a super star. His scoring was deceptively quiet. You would look up at the end of the game and be surprised to find he had 12 to 18 points. He had a very good 3-point shot.

That said, I always wanted him to be assertive and do more. I always hoped to see him drive more, or drive and pull up for a two pointer. Make his own shots instead of drifting the perimeter of the three-point line looking to spot up. (we had a whole team full of spot up shooters last year, which is one reason why the offense stalled in some many first halves when the first couple of outside shots missed).

I don't know where he is going, or why he's leaving. I wish him well, but I'm baffled.

And, I don't get the criticism of McBride. The guy played about 20 minutes a game this year. Except for a small stretch late in the season (when I think something was clearly wrong health wise), he got up and down the court pretty well for a big man. He has great, soft hands. He knows how to position himself well. If anybody on this squad knew how to pass the ball into the center, he'd score close to 20 points a game.

I love how everybody says we are losing all these good players. These good players couldn't even get the team to a decent record. Wanna blame the coach then? Ok, fine, he's gone. Now these good players can't handle a new coach?

Everyone acts like we had this gdamn dream team and only the coach was holding us back. Gimmie a break.

That's what happens when you come off a job that you were just fired from. Too strong, trying to right the wrongs at Stanford.
Or our guys seem undisciplined to him. They certainly didn't play/execute a lot of disciplined, fundamental basketball. DJ didn't seem like he could be hard on the kids, and I mean hard in a good way. Too much of a nice guy.

I would love to see Dawkins make McBride lose 20-30 pounds before he can play. The guy has good skills and a nice shot on the offensive end. He's servicable on the defensive end. If he wants any chance to play at the next level he's got to lose 20-30 pounds. It limits his athleticism.

Our guys probably looked really undisciplined to coach Frost but he approached it completely different.

None of this matters until the teams hit the field/court and we see the results. There's a lot of different ways to produce success but the foundation is always "buy in".

Buy in to a coach who had a mediocre record at his last job, which he was fired from and who didn't recruit you?

Yeah sometimes it can be the right message, but from the wrong messenger. If Coach K or Roy Williams comes in and orders a 5:00 a.m. run, I'd imagine they all do it without complaint. Dawkins doesn't have the pedigree as a head coach to legitimize the method in the eyes of the players. I never even heard of O'Leary ordering 5:00 a.m. runs.

They probably expected to lose a player or two with a new coach coming in, but I doubt they thought 2 of their top 4 scorers from last season would transfer (with another graduating), and they would lose 2 of the 3 recruits for the fall. And we thought the depth was bad the last few seasons. There will be some scrubs playing next year for sure.

Agreed. That's why coach Frost didn't have trouble getting his kids to buy in.

Happens quite a bit...just like in the real world...(i.e. Executives/top management that hired you are no longer there).

Most people are able to adjust just fine....as there are different ways to skin a cat.

Sure because they have to be. A lot of people also leave if they have the opportunity.
