Amendments

It all made sense to me. They both didn’t pass and amendment 5 did

You of course can see the irony in 60% rule being enshrined by a ballot initiative that failed to secure 60% of the vote right? In a split electorate a sky is blue amendment would have trouble securing 60% of the vote.
Yes I do. However, most people on here don't get the reference.

At one point in time the Florida Constitution was amended to protect pregnant pigs.... look it up. So, we the people of Florida voted that a Constitutional Amendment needed 60% to pass back in 2006. At the time, all they needed was 50% and it got 57% so it passed.

You should've been more involved back then.

BTW, simple majorities are a democracy. Thankfully we are not that.

Yes I can, but 50% was the law at that time. You have to run with the laws as they are written at the time. Bottom line is the people of Florida Amended the Constitution of the state to require 60%. The people of Florida wanted to make it harder and they did. They passed that amendment under the law of that time. If the want to go back to 50% or set a new 75% requirement they can do that. You simply write a bill get enough signatures to put on ballot, and get 60% of the vote.
