Bozo will have a field day with this thread, but here goes.

UCF has a rich tradition of developing walkons (from what little I know about the program pre-2017.). Due to its low tuition, UCF has an advantage with regard to signing and developing in-state preferred walk-ons, especially linemen, who generally takes YEARs to develop and aren't signed by Gus anyway.

Here is an in-depth look at 18 UCF walk ons:

OFFENSE

RB Kam Ingram, Fayetteville (Ark.) HS/Bethune Cookman
Son of DE coach Kam Ingram.

WR Dwartney Wortham, Troup HS

WR Ru'Darius Cooper, Fort Myers HS/North Alabama

WR/RB Tyler Wrenn, Vero Beach HS North Carolina College/Chowen

OL/TE Ethan Higgins, Hernando Christian
Played 6 man football. Will require years to develop into an offensive tackle.

TE Thomas Wadsworth, Melbourne HS
Class 7A second team All State

TE Reese Adkins, Lake Gibson HS/Eastern Kentucky

OL Shaheem Hill, Lake Gibson HS
7A all-state lineman

OL Matthew Pigmore, Cypress Bay HS

OL Andrew Phelan, East River HS

DEFENSE

DL Keshaun Hudson, Dillard HS

LB Quentin Hatch, West Orange HS/Lake Erie College

LB Keeron Henderson, Highland Springs (VA) HS/Army
Don't know this kid's story or how he ended up at UCF.

LB Camden Vining, St. Stephens Episcopal/Army

DB Terrell Jackson, Trinity Christian (Air Force)
Signed with Air Force, but COVID forced him to reconsider his pledge and reclassify to the 2022 class

DB Hudson Gibbs, Winter Park HS
Son of former DB Coach David Gibbs

SPECIAL TEAMS

SN Aidan Fedigan, DeLand HS
Nation's top high school snapper in 2022

POTENTIAL WALK-ON:
SN Gage King*, Oak Ridge (CA) HS

*It has not been officially confirmed that Gage holds a scholarship. It is assumed that he does. If he does not, UCF has at least two scholarships remaining.

----

UCF has other incoming walk-ons, who are not on the team yet. ... In the future, the Kingdom could allocate NIL funds to pay the tuition of walk ons, assuming it doesn't already.

This is exactly what I am talking about: Using NIL to pay for walk-ons.

I see no reason a team cannot pay a recruit to "walk on" with NIL and not count against the team's 85-scholarship limit. Walk-ons could be ELITE transfers or developmental players.

Gus could pay a running back 300k + tuition to "walk on." LOL

Hurricanes did it years ago. It was called Mens Track. They did it so much the NCAA made a rule, if you play football at all, that’s where your scholarship is. Not track or rowing.

Not a "scholarship." Academic and athletic scholarships transfer to football scholarships if a player plays a down of football.

More of a cash or check handout partially earmarked from a collective to be passed over to the bursar's office.

Or ...

Cam Riley can do a series of commercials for FBC Mortgage in exchange for royalties of $450k, $25k-$50k of which he pays toward tuition, room, and board when he enrolls in a UCF graduate program as a preferred walk on for UCF.

Hard to police.

BYU has been doing it since NIL started. Wont get away with it if they leave stars as walk ons though.

I am not sure that UCF didn't "comp" a certain 3 Star DT who is projected to walk on in the fall.

The forum jester spent all this time digging up gibberish on walk-on guys that won’t play a down.
The defensive walk ons who "won't play a down" appeared in 7 games and combined for 6 tackles.

What I found ironic was....

The LBs and DBs were the deepest and most talented groups, with two Army walk ons, a former Air Force signee, and D3 community college transfer.

The OL walk-ons were the worst position group...

Hate all you want.

The stats show Cam Vining played in 11 games for UCF in 2022 (mainly because Josh Huepel couldn't recruit for sh*t.)

Dude made almost 400 tackles in high school so he ain't hot garbage.

He probably won't see the field now that all the chicken eaters have been excommunicated.

He showed up and played well in the Spring game....he'll probably get backup time, especially if one of the starters gets dinged up...
