Any chance Gus utilizes QBs Jacurri Brown and/or Dylan Rizk against FL or during the season ahead?

I hope Gus is at least pushing these 2 QBs to execute.

A few more turnovers from KJ and ya have to put in one of the two!

Just my humble opinion :)

Thoughts?

Jacurri seems to have a quicker pace to everything he does compared to KJ, but who knows about decision making and all that. I can't even be upset about not developing younger players these days because they can just pick up and transfer after receiving that development at UCF so the guarantee of return on investment breaking in young players is way less than it used to be. The staff are really the only ones in position to gauge players that are likely to be here after this season and balance that against guys best suited to help us win now.

KJ hurt ribs 2 games ago but was saved by the bye week. If he takes a shot to ribs he may sit. But with Gus calling plays he doesn’t know strengths of the individuals. He wants to call plays no matter who is at QB.
Plumlee started against Kansas and he didn't even look remotely healthy to be playing. The starter basically has to refuse to go on the field.

Using another QB without a change in calling of plays isn't going to fix the problem. It was obvious very early in the game that Gus' constant movement in the backfield wasn't slowing down the opposing defense. He needed to run plays that went right at them including quick pass like slants plays but Gus doesn't do that and this is why Townsend left. Gus likes to use the slot receiver as a decoy running behind the line and doesn't use him much in quick slant passing game.

I still have no idea why we stopped doing RPO's when we marched down the field and scored a touchdown. Jefferson seemed comfortable running it. The commentators mentioned the DBs were running man all game. There aren't routes to exploit man?
Even the Brock guy said Gus has been running the same plays since Ark high school, so it's not exactly a mystery.

Correct. It's his game, along with throwing slants. You can run the same plays. Even tell your opponent what you are going to run, and if you execute at a very high level you'll still be successful. Problem is we've never seen our offense under Gus execute at a very high level for a sustained period of time. This is because we still haven't had/found/developed a dynamic QB. Without the QB position playing at a high level you're just going to be "good" no matter what (not great or elite).

Against TCU KJ had great stats: 13/22 for 230 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs; 9 carries for 46 yards.
Against Colorado KJ was 20/34 for 284 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs; 20 carriers for 76 yards (1 fumble lost) and 1 TD. 3 turnovers is likely never to win you a game against quality opponents (plus RJ had 1 lost fumble, and we had a drive die within the 10 yard line).

Team just has to execute better. Will they...I guess we'll find out Saturday night.

If they load the box each time, the middle will be open for various passing (tight end, RB, WR) etc. Just basics

Matt! Yes running the same play after play when it's not working is the definition of insanity. It might work for the cupcake teams but not an SEC team.

Agreed. I would have yanked KJ on that first Interception. No accountability on a gross screw up that in my opinion cost us the game as it took the early momentum away that we never could regain.
You're going to pull KJ after 1 interception after he led you back from a 21 point deficit including the game winning touchdown throw in the waning seconds of the game, the game before? GTFOH

I don't love KJ as our starting QB, but to insinuate we have a better shot with one of the other guys we have is laughable. Based on what is this opinion?

Based on

48-21

Any time after the 21 was a fine time to replace him.

PS. anyone hoping Dylan Rizk will ever be a UCF QB is going to be sadly disappointed. Do you really think many are going to stay here after being constantly ignored for years? I'd be willing to bet, next year's starting QB is not on the roster. He's probably not in the state.

What do you mean by after the 21? The guy I was responding to said KJ should’ve been pulled after the INT on the 1st drive. Which is insane.

A lot of truth to that.

Seems like every team we play against runs the slant against us and we stop it for a 7 or 8 yard gain at best. It's very frustrating to watch as a fan.

If we lose this game and when our season's over, Gus need to start developing qbs, not stick with jefferson.

"Based on what is this opinion?"

Really?

I know this by watching the game and seeing that the receiver that he threw to was completely blanketed by the defensive player. KJ vision is horrible and throwing into double coverage at times when I wide open receiver is right there in front of him. Decision making horrible. I can go on and on. Every game up to this point it is painfully obvious that KJ is not the guy we were promised. Also, other coaches do it. When someone is playing bad, over and over, you give the back up a chance to try something different. It happens in all sport's teams.

For the backup Qbs, I have no idea if they are any good. Hardly get to witness them play. But, at this point it would be refreshing to see different Qb play.

But he will be a washed up transfer portal QB. And we will continue to not develop any young talented QBs as long as Gus is around.

UCF boosters paid KJ Jefferson $350K and he will start the rest of the games. Another bad QB evaluation by Gus Malzahn…there are no easy answers and no short cuts.

Malzahn has not developed any QBs at UCF. There’s literally nothing to be done.
