SIAP:

Pac-12 is ALWAYS nervous about not being in Top 6 and even the ACC after last season may not agree to this as they want an auto bid no matter what.

Bowlsby is confident Big 12 will be a Top 6 (more likely Tope 3 or 4) each year.

I am for the P5 Auto bid ..another official thing to use to separate from our former conference. The perception will already be that but it would provide further separation and encourage harder OOC matchups

If i understand that is the point they are arguing.

P12 says our champion should be in no matter what ranking they have. Example Oregon is top5 team but loses CCG to unranked team. P12 still wants in and the $.

B12 is saying 6 highest ranked Champions. So there is a chance any upsets cost your confrence big $ by not getting that playoff $.

Makes sense. Which is why it has such opposition.
If the goal is to get the top 6 teams in the country, this doesn't work. I think we all agree a 1 loss Bama is still a top 3 team, but they wouldn't get in.

If the goal is to get the most diverse set of teams, then it works.

He was discussing a 12 team playoff and 6 best Conference winners get auto bids. The next 6 would be invited. A 3rd ranked Bama gets in. Probably top 9 get in , in most years.

Ah gotcha, I should have watched before I commented. That makes alot more sense

all these years he could have supported The AAC and he routinely spurned us as undeserving, now we are in the Big 12 and hes pulling for The AAC? Annoyed with this guy.

Im all for P5 autobids as well. Its like Bowlsby doesn't realize his conference is on the rockiest ground and needs autonomy status IN WRITING, we should not leave it up to chance.

exactly the Pac12 may be doing us a favor w this stance. Also it is so short sided to assume the Pac12 will remain this weak…Riley will bring in elite talent to USC and I think Oregon will remain good

I think he is hedging for a loss of Big 12 power status. New Big 12 may not be a power conference but we should usually have Top 6 conference champion.

G5 teams want an expansion of the current deal (or slight adjustment like Top 6 Champs in a new 12 team playoff) but if they wait till after this CFP Contract expires in 2025...P5's can basically do whatever they want as ESPN and/or FOX will own it and they will do whatever their top TV partners (P5 conf) want to do.

Marc Daniels brought this up about 2 weeks ago:

If there is a new deal AFTER 2025, G5 lose almost the little leverage they have.

It will be P5 focused.

Marc mentioned this earlier this week on how G5 will lose their leverage if current contract isn't extended/expanded:

As for the Group of 5 conferences fighting for any format that protects their leagues, be careful. The AAC's Mike Aresco is demanding at least one spot for a G5 champion in an expanded playoff and he and others in his group prefer a model that takes the top six rated conference champions not necessarily the P5 champs and one G5. That is what Aresco and his fellow G5 leaders need to fight for. But if the current playoff contract is allowed to run its course, a new playoff may look vastly different. In fact, a new playoff contract in five seasons may not include any G5 team. All bets are off the table once this current deal ends. Maybe the P5 leagues decide to change the rules again. They have the brands, the media partnerships with real value and the votes. What if the P5 leagues say "you know what, we are done with you and here is our offer for little money and our rules and if you don't like it then we will just leave you out"...Don't laugh, that can easily happen and the projected "breakaway" could then actually happen.

They can't get to a 12 team playoff soon enough. After this years invitational rematch joke.
