"This could be bad news for fans of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF and others.

Hypothetically, such a proposal could assuage concerns about a conference with a multi-division format, like the ACC floated. It could also allow the Big 12 to hold a championship without expanding or forming divisions. Multiple sources have told SB Nation that forcing a conference to expand is not a goal of any pending legislation."

Death knell for UCF and any current G5 school if the cowardly p5 vote to deregulate the conference title game requirements. If they don't force the big 12 to play by the same rules and let them hold a conference title game then why would the big 12 ever want to expand ever again?

The SEC and Big Ten will vote against deregulation but the ACC and big 12 will. Each P5 conference is worth 2 and every G5 vote is worth 1. If the G5 side with the sec and big ten then expansion is imminent but would the G5 be in favor? The American could forever doom UCF with its vote. They want stability so I think they vote in favor of deregulation to prevent the conference being raided.

The fate of UCF's P5 dreams shall be determined on Wednesday.

That article does not add up:

Big12 wants CC game without divisions (total deregulation).
B1G does not want this and proposes must have divisions.
Big12 doesn't think its proposal will pass.
B1G modifies its proposal to allow round-robin conferences to hold CC game???????

Allowing round-robin conferences to have a CC game is essentially totally deregulating as there are only divisional and round-robin conferences. Am I missing something here?

It wont stop anything, it will however slow things down. and for UCF today that may be a good thing.

A championship games doesn't really help them with only ten members. Let's just look at this year. They all played each other and in the last four weeks all eliminated each other from contention, with Oklahoma coming out alone on top. They essentially had their own playoff over those weeks.

The last week of the season Oklahoma defeated Ok State in the defacto championship game. If they had a true championship game the next weekend it would have been the same matchup. If Oklahoma wins then everyone just sees it as a mediocre win that doesn't mean much....because they would have just beat them. If Ok State wins then it would have eliminated Oklahoma from the playoff. It's not just a matter of having a championship game but a game that also matters and with only 10 teams they could far too often end up with this kind of scenario. With 10 teams I don't think a Championship game provides enough street cred for an eventual champ and it could just as easily eliminate them from the CFP as much as helping them.

Iowa was a prime example of at least 12 teams "working" to thier advantage. It provided drama over the course of the season and provided a matchup of teams that did not play each other during the regular season. It's as much perception as anything with the committee putting together the rankings.

In the next 10 years Texhoma will leave for more money, the BIG/$EC will poach the ACC and there will be 2 mid major conferences in the midwest and east coast again. We'll probably be in a league similar to the old BE.
