Brandon Goodwin leaving UCF

Wilson was terrible on defense. We will miss his shooting and rebounding some, but hopefully Adonys and BJ can hit the outside shots and Davis can help in the rebounding department. I think Tacko will have a limited role in defensive situations, will be a good defender/rebounder.

Here is a recent video of Tacko Fall from his senior year (also includes clips from E1T1 travel team which has great competition!!)

A reminder that Tacko runs the floor very well for a 7 footer. It helps that he grew up playing soccer. It showed a few times in the video as he blocked a few guards from trailing.

Let's compare the guards from our roster last year and this year:

2014-15 season
6'0 SO Brandon Goodwin
6'2 JR Daiquan Walker
6'2 FR BJ Taylor
6'3 FR Marshall Holmes
6'3 SR Miles Davis
6'6 FR Adonys Henriquez

Avg height- 6'2 1/2
Avg Experience- 1.0 years (Sophomore)

2015-16 season
6'2 SR Daiquan Walker
6'2 SO BJ Taylor
6'4 FR Chance McSpadden
6'5 JR Matt Williams
6'6 SO Adonys Henriquez
6'6 JR Tanksley Efianayi

Avg height- 6'4 1/4
Avg Experience- 2.5

We are definitely upgrading this season! We lost these players to graduation or transfer: Brandon Goodwin, Miles Davis, and Marshall Holmes. We gained Chance McSpadden, Matt Williams, and Tanksley Effianayi. I would have to say that is a definite improvement!!

Losing Matt Williams last year right at the start of the season was a loss...but in his absence, Henriquez was basically forced to play almost entire games (36 mins plus), which gained him valuable experience.

Henriquez, in order to play that much, had to save energy since there really weren't any available subs for him on UCF's short bench...and that hurt some (especially at start of games...as Henriquez waited way too long for the game/ball to come to him) as Henriquez probably could have played all-out for 26-28 mins if Williams was available last year.

I hope Henriquez gets selfish this season...as he can't wait 5-10 mins at start of games before he takes his first shot...which happened way to often last year.

I do think with more inside threats this year for UCF...the outside wings should have more opportunity to get more open 3's...which is right in Henriquez wheel house.

Injuries are a part of the game...don't count on all these guys being healthy this year either.

nice analysis!

You are correct. Injuries happen to every team every year (other than an extreme). I like how you said not to count on these guys being healthy this year either, because there are no promises.
I agree with Pittstoner, we don't know what this year will bring BUT we can take a look at last years injuries and how it effected us.

(30 is max games played).
Starter, Matt Williams missed 29 games (really the whole season)
Starter, Kasey Wilson- 1 game
Starter BJ Taylor- 4 games
Shaheed Davis- 6 games
Then we also had many unknown injuries that players attempted to play games in. These figures above only count if they logged zero minutes in a game. For example, BJ Taylor played less than 16 minutes in 2 more games. Kasey played less than 20 minutes in 11 games as compared to the previous season when it was only 3 games less than 20 minutes.

This year I assume that we will have some injuries and our starters won't start a few games. I just hope it doesn't tally as many as this year, 34 starts missed.

I feel I should compare last years BIGs to this year..
2014-15 season
6'7 SR Kasey Wilson
6'9 JR Staphon Blair
6'9 JR Shaheed Davis
6'10 SO Justin McBride
6'11 JR Dylan Karell

Avg height- 6'9 1/5
Avg Exp- 2.0 (junior)

2015-16 season
6'8 FR Chad Brown
6'9 SR Staphon Blair
6'9 SR Shaheed Davis
6'9 SO AJ Davis
6'10 JR Justin McBride
7'6 FR Tacko Fall

Avg height- 6'10 2/6
Avg Exp- 1.65

We lost Kasey due to graduation and Karell transferred. We gained A LOT of height! Freshman are tough to predict but they come in with credentials higher than Kasey or Karell. AJ Davis has had a lot of talk but I am hoping that he shows it on the court. Our front court is more experienced in the starting roles and has tons of height in our backups. I think this group will really outperform our team from last year. I hope Shaheed finds his rhythm this year and I am a supporter of McBride and think he will perform really well this year. Last year he was coming off an injury. This year will be a great transition to college ball for our freshman because we have our starters in place and 2 backups after them. Hopefully they learn a lot, contribute when called upon, and grow into solid players for our future.

Actually, Tacko (without even an off-season of weight training at college level) actually has ok upper body strength for a true freshmen...and should only grow stronger in the coming years.

Donnie and staff seemed to have done a very good job with Blair (Clanton too), and McBride, who's injury prior to the start of this freshmen year that really set him back, has showed flashes of success and certainly (especially at the time of UCF sanctions) was worth the scholarship offer/risk.

Also Donnie and basically the same staff did a GREAT job with Whiteside while at Marshall...as Whiteside blocked 182 shots in just 34 games as a true Freshmen.

Obviously Whiteside and virtually every other incoming Freshmen this season have all been playing organized basketball longer (much longer for most) than Tacko...but Tacko has improved immensely and odds are, he will only continue to imporve in the coming years.

No where near Shaq? Really? How many other college players (especially the ones UCF had a shot to sign) were anywhere near "Shaq's" talent/success?

A very well thought-out analysis, Knight_Light. I still think McBride can improve his conditioning even more, but there's no question he improved last season. Fall doesn't have to be Shaq; I think helping us out with defense and rebounding is where we need him most.

From this UCF Athletics interview with new Freshmen Player Chance McSpadden, footage of McBride in the background looks like he's had a pretty good off-season (lost some weight, more importantly, looks like he has a lot more upper body/arm strength).

What's the Chance
