Brunei set to pass a law banning gay sex

I have gay friends who travel to Dubai and what not. I don't get it. I have ZERO desire.

i never understood why the left loves to protect that religion. it goes against alot of what this country stands for.

Huh?!?!? Silly me, I could have sworn this country stands for the protection of religion.

If you look at a map of the countries with laws against same sex sexual relationships, they are all African, Middle East, and Southeast Asian countries. To help you geographically 'unenlightened' Red Hats, your President would describe them as sh*thole countries except for Saudi Arabia where his crowned Prince buddy holds court.

At the time of his famous quote, we had posters here who reveled at calling out those "sh*thole countries" for being mismanaged, horrible cesspools. But it's funny how often the views of our country's social conservatives mirror those of the residents of these 'sh*tholes.'

Weird, huh?

Except the left will protect that religion despite these views. After the pulse shooting the left focused on guns even though it was a gay-hating muslim who wanted to kill gays

Most free-thinking people understand that a Fundamentalist who hates gays is not an indictment of an entire religion, be it Islam or Christianity.

But why do you think Fundamentalists from these backwards sh*thole countries do so much gay bashing? I'll give you a clue: it has something to do with ignorance.

The sh*thole countries were the south American countries where poverty is just the norm. Yes if we just fully open our borders, then we would become a sh*thole too. It's just reality. We can't afford to support everyone.

Who said anything about fully opening our borders? Sheeesh, talk about setting up a make-believe straw man.

...then we would become a sh*thole too. It's just reality.
Maybe you guys should rethink your strategy since the majority of the immigrants from these backwards, third-world countries tend to look at the world like you do.

It's just a reality. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I am in Dubai often. There are OBVIOUSLY gay people visiting there especially from Europe.

If you don’t cause a ruckus you have nothing to worry about. It’s not at all a strict society

No doubt gays traveling to Dubai feel SO MUCH BETTER now.

They just need to avoid "causing a ruckus." :)

You don’t know what you’re talking about so just shut up and stop trying to comment on yet another subject you don’t know shit about, Shookster

I’ll be there on April 14 for the 3rd time this year.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, you da man!
:)

How often you making it over Shookster?
Oh, this is a competition? If so, YOU WIN Dude! That tops the couple of times in my life that I've been there.

For the record, my response wasn't intended to play a bullsh*t game of world traveler one-upsmanship. It was only meant to inform you that you shouldn't automatically assume you're the board's authority on Dubai simply because you'll have 'flown there for the third time this year.'

I have to confess that based on your posts here, you don't strike me as someone who's picked up a lot of 'cultural sensitivity' from your travels.

Ok so basically you derailed a thread just to be a prick and insert your worthless biased opinion. I was trying to give an opinion to someone who has real concerns about the UAE and you jumped in like a dick.

I’m pretty obviously gay - would I have problems there?

IMO, nope. Not unless you go with your boyfriend and decide to make out everywhere you go, which you probably don't do anyways. So no, it's not the open society that we enjoy here, but they're not going to pluck you from the sidewalk or from the mall if you look or seem gay. They really don't care. It takes a lot for them to hassle westerners over this stuff and typically it takes a bar fight, severe public intoxication, DUI, vandalism, etc.

If you go to the Dubai mall it will look exactly like going to the mall in NYC or in Paris.

All that said, I don't think there's anything in Dubai worth the 14 hour flight it requires. I fly into there a lot and spend most of my time in Abu Dhabi for work. I love it, compared to other places in the region, and it's a very comfortable palce to spend weekends, but I wouldn't go out of my way to vacation there. Although, Abu Dhabi just put in there very own Lourve museum which turned out to be awesome.

I was just in Muscat, Oman and IMO that's the real treasure out there. It has history, culture, a "European Riviera" type downtown waterfront...….and Sultan Qaboos is rumored to be openly bi-sexual. So swinging both ways is "really, really OK.....but "not ok".
