Cam gives us the shaft! So UCF DT Cam Goode enters transfer portal

This one is disappointing. But he had younger players starting ahead of him (Ricky Barber & Keenan Hester), so maybe that was part of it. He's a good player though. D-Line depth is important.
Agreed, and with incoming talent he must have felt the squeeze. Good luck to the young man. Hopefully he can harness what he did with Florida and elevate his career.

going to be difficult to have the depth to ever be a playoff contender when they all leave for different reasons

so they only accept not being on max snaps at Bama and Ohio State ?

shoot they leave ohio state where they aren't getting snaps and go start at bama and become a first round pick.

if the strength coach is driving them too hard in their opinion it's because gus wants him to do that.
I wonder about this too. We had a good one with frost, i think he plucked him away from a MWC school. We literally had no significant injuries during the natty season that i can think of

The Knights still have strong options at defensive tackle despite Goode’s departure. UCF returns redshirt junior Ricky Barber, who started 10 games last year, and fifth-year senior Anthony Montalvo, who is taking advantage of an extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA to players due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, defensive tackle Keenan Hester is back for his redshirt junior season after making 7 starts last season. He totaled 24 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack.

UCF also added former Auburn defensive tackle Lee Hunter from the portal earlier this month. Hunter, however, did not appear in a game last season for the Tigers despite being ranked as the No. 12 defensive lineman in the country in the 2021 signing class, according to 247Sports.

find it hard to believe he was denied an MRI if he told the head athletic trainer he had pain there . even the poorer sports get referrals easily signed off
The team was riddled with injuries all year, seems very plausible they would try to avoid further weakening depth by diagnosing more injuries if the player is physically able to perform.

Staff is employed to put a winning product on the field first and foremost.

Seems like an odd choice to seek transfer while disclosing you have a bunch of undiagnosed injuries.

Plausible to a pessimist or the gullible perhaps. I find it hard to believe that an accomplished coach would risk his reputation and job security over not allowing a player to undergo proper medical consultation and/or treatment.

I don’t disbelieve he had and played with injuries, but I highly doubt anyone on the medical staff (which by all accounts we have a very good one) would put their job or reputation on the line and deny him an MRI. People have choices in life, just like his choice to transfer, he chose to continue to play when his body obviously was telling him there was a problem. If you really wanted an MRI, and were “denied”, you could simply go to a hospital yourself.

And agreed, why transfer with all these injuries and then post about them? He could have taken care of them in the off-season w/ UCF’s assistance/recovery and maybe even applied for a medical redshirt if surgeries were needed. What school is going to take you on now? And you’ll have to go it alone and fully recover, then prove it before a team will. Seems like a bad decision all around, but that’s life as a 22-23 yr old. He was one of my favorite players, wish him well in life.

If he was denied an MRI from the team, I'm certain he got one elsewhere given that he knows all these specific injuries.

It's possible the staff informed him he wouldn't be able to play if he was diagnosed with something and he chose to postpone it. In this case he could have felt pressured not to pursue treatment, leading him to say h was denied an MRI.

This situation reminds me of healthcare in the military.

On the opposite end, if this was UF, Miami, Nebraska, Alabama, USF, Texas, or Auburn 2017 many would totally believe a staff would do this.

Just seems like an odd situation, and every college student is not dumb and every individual on a college football coaching staff is not a saint.

You can’t just show up at a hospital and demand high priced tests without a referral. I’m doubting he even has insurance that would allow him to go anywhere outside of UCF Doctors for free. I’m willing to bet he is disclosing this stuff for a lawsuit. The new school would do a physical on him and find most of this stuff out anyway. Hiding it is not beneficial.

I’ve got serious issues with Mary’s past administrative actions but I’m not buying this just on Cam’s word. The ATs and Doctors around the program don’t just ignore injury complaints.

And I doubt he was flatly denied. Some see this as an accusation like Cam Goode is accusing Guz Malzahn of ordering a code red. More likely its a situation that Cam had conversations with staff directly responsible for this and was dissuaded from pursing additional tests and it ended there. At the end of season something happened that then demonstrated the full extent of his injuries.

How many times we hear players in all levels of sports, played through xyz and put off surgery until the offseason. Many staff and players find that perfectly acceptable. This could be a situation, where a player after the fact doesn't agree with that decision. Which is not cut and dry, but also doesn't mean he is fabricating the entire story.
