Check out #8 on this list....

So we hired number 22 on that list. Honestly we might not have been able to afford Key if we offered him the HC job.

Best money ever spent.

good spend in 2013....bad spend in 2015.....

unfortunately it's not 2013 anymore.....so to help the huggers resolve this please repeat after me....

$3M on 2 coaches = 0-12 in 2015....yikes!
$3M on 2 coaches = 0-12 in 2015....yikes!
$3M on 2 coaches = 0-12 in 2015....yikes!

now let's close the book....

a new era has begun....thank goodness!!

Wow is this a stupid thread. those coaches would have been paid whether it was 0-12, 6-6, 8-4 or 12-0. It is called a contract and it is what you do when you hire a coach, or anyone else for that matter. Guess what? If Frost goes 0-24 he is going to get paid too!!! Wooo Hoooo Good thing it is a new era.

Also this was negotiated as a HCIW not just an assistant. Also negotiated when your team just was ranked #10 in the nation and was poised for another breakout year. So many want to Monday morning QB

first of all, Monday morning QB my a##....go look at the posts of mine about GOL over the last 10+ years...I've been on the board that long and never a GOL fan.....

secondly, you mention Frost going 0-24.....whaaaaat?....just a reminder, the previous regime finished 0-12 and Frost is currently 0-0.....and that's a fact, unlike your ramblings about contracts....aka bad decisions

so you call a factual report of embarrasingly overpaid coaches stupid and then make stupid comments about the new coach going 0-24....

so I guess I agree.....there is something stupid in this thread....

Is it ever possible for a whiner to stop whining? Get over it. Many, most, if not all sports orgs make these mistakes. Even previous National Champs make stupid coach decisions. The difference between them and crap orgs like usf is they get over it, usf and apparently several on here can't stop whining.

Enough already, GOL worked his contract around helping UCF keep him on, reportedly .. when he was ready to retire. The buy out clauses in these deals go both ways. Sometimes it hits a leaving coach, sometimes it hits the school. It is a normal part of everyday sports business. Part of GOL's money was truly deferred income. He received less over the last 2 years, and collects it over the next 5 to 10 years. For Key it is payment for not delivering him a promised gig.[/B]

The admin begging him to stay is according to his statement at his retirement announcement. He can say whatever he wants. He's been known to make things up in the past. It was his idea/desire to become full time AD and hand the program over to Key. That doesn't sound like a guy who was ready to walk away completely two years ago.

Geez, man. Making things up like you just did? The word "begging" is something you made up and not what he said. He said, "He wanted to retire after the 2013 season but after discussions with school administration agreed to return for two more years." He stepped down as interim AD before he stepped down as coach. AD does not mean you have autonomy to do whatever you want and if he was kept on as AD we have no idea who would be our coach now...because it never happened. GOL is not the AD and Key isn't our coach so all your speculation is just flat wrong. Keep on making stuff up and remembering history the way you'd like to remember it, though.

You are the worst kind of Monday morning QB. You hedge your bets then come out whining when things go south and criticize decisions made 2 years ago when things were going well. Maybe you can put on your Fiesta Bowl T-shirt and protest in front of GOL's house.

GOL brought stability and status to UCF. He established UCF as a power in the mid majors. Sure he was old fashioned. His offense was boring. His recruiting methods archaic. But he had as much success or more than many other Mid major outside of Boise during the same time period. He took UCF from a shamble to having structure and tradition. He established academic excellence at the school. He won multiple championships. He also had bad years and this year was the worst. But he did not leave a shell as many have claimed.

GOL did so much good for UCF, was he perfect, no. But you accuse him of being a thief who stole something from UCF. Anyone who has ever actually been around GOL has the upmost respect for the man including UCF's long time president who I believe to be a better judge of character than you. In the usual passive-aggressive message board fashion you make your accusations of thievery. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I am glad that GOL is gone and Frost is in. I would rather have Frost than any other candidate that has been discussed. I have been a GOL supporter for years but even I can admit that it was time for a change, and now that it is here and I can see our new coach I can get on board. That much I can admit to Monday morning quarterbacking.

Since you seem too thick to understand, my comments were for example only. If Frost were to go 0-24 do you think he will be entitled to his pay? Will you criticize Hitt for hiring him? That is the nature of the beast.

you don't need to personally attack....the answers to the questions in your post are no and yes....and, please, to earn his pay over the past 12 years ($12M+), at minimum, GOL should have made a lot of progress with this program...that's a he## of a lot of money to do what he did...and as a coach, some of us feel he didn't earn his money, was too inconsistent and lost big too many times competing against MAC, CUSA and AAC conference opponents....

it's clear that you and I will never agree on the overall success of the GOL regime (all 12 years) so let's agree to disagree...

and most importantly, as I suggested in my OP, let's close the book on the old era and welcome a new one.....
