The UCF football team was looking for linebacker depth and they got a much-needed boost from a familiar face.

Redshirt senior linebacker Chequan Burkett, who left the team during spring to attend to his family, has decided to re-join the team, UCF head coach Scott Frost announced Tuesday during the Tampa stop of the Charge On tour. Burkett was back on campus on Monday.

Burkett finished with 38 tackles in 2016 and he adds more depth to the linebacker spot, which is a position that Frost and the defensive staff has noted that they need more depth in. This move gives the Knights a huge boost in 2017

Whew! Welcome back. I wonder if the coaches reached out. Or sometimes these things just require time. Contrast our good kids' problems with USF turmoil.

Wow! Total shocker when he left and even more of a shocker that he's back. This is the best news that we have heard in awhile. It basically gives us a second returning starter at LB as he played a lot last year. He's got good size and is athletic. We shouldn't have anyone under 6' 2" 225 this year.
Also, now he will at least have a CHANCE to play somewhere after his UCF career if he has a successful season.

Always good to have a wayward player return. Nice to have the experience at that position.

He may have left team and able to return if he met certain conditions. Could have been a HIPPA thing we can't know about.
