CNN threatens to out Redditor for Trump/CNN gif creation

After posting his apology, "HanA**holeSolo" called CNN's KFile and confirmed his identity. In the interview, "HanA**holeSolo" sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.
CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.

TLDR: Redditor creates gif of Trump beating down a person with CNN's logo on the face. CNN uncovers Redditor's identity and forces apology. Redditor complies for fear of his identity being disclosed and the racist comments from other posts being attributed to him.

The user (CNN called him a "man" so who knows how old he is) posted a shitload more offensive stuff other than the wrestling gif. What's funny about that is the President tweeted a video with sound, not a gif, so somebody else (WH staff perhaps?) made that, not the HanAholeSolo guy.

WaPo reporter finds gif on reddit that the video is based on, and finds a lot of other offensive stuff posted by that user (including a picture of CNN staff noting how many are Jews).
CNN reporter investigates and finds out who the guy is in order to conduct an interview with a guy who is clearly very inflammatory to CNN, so he contacts the troll via email
Troll freaks out thinking CNN is going to publish his name, and apologizes and takes down all of his posts, then calls CNN to do the interview
CNN conducts interview with troll, troll asks to remain anonymous, CNN obliges, but makes a poor editorial decision to mention that they reserve the right to publish the guy's name in case his contrition is merely contrived

It's time we start holding trolls accountable for the garbage they post online hiding under the idea they are anonymous. Actions have consequences.
